Due November 23, 2009</p><p>Monday, November 16, 2009 Objective: To determine why Greek art and drama reflected the type of society that was present in Greece from 480-430 BC. To identify and analyze the reasons why the Spartans and Athenians went to war against each other for 27 years. Bell Ringer: Why was the period from 480-430 BC called the Golden Age of Greece? Provide examples. Class Activity:  Summarizes Differences between Athenians and Spartans  Persian Wars  Analyzing Motives - The Peloponnesian War</p><p>Tuesday, November 17, 2009 Objective: To describe the main beliefs of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. To write a letter explaining why they agree or disagree with one of the philosophers’ beliefs. Bell Ringer: Look to the overhead screen for the bell ringer. Class Activity:  Searching for Truth</p><p>Homework:</p><p>Wednesday, November 18, 2009 Objective: To summarize Alexander’s military conquests. To predict the impact Alexander’s military conquests had on future cultures. Bell Ringer: If Alexander the Great had lived, do you think he would have been as successful in ruling his empire as he was in building it? Think about the skills needed for military leadership, skills needed to govern an empire, and Alexander’s demonstrated abilities. Class Activity:  The Ancient Greek Newspaper  An Illustrated Timeline – Alexander the Great’s Conquests Homework: Read Chapter 5/Section 5 (pages 132-135) and answer questions 1 & 3 on page 135. </p><p>Thursday, November 19, 2009 No School Report Card Pick up</p><p>Friday, November 20, 2009 Objective: To describe Hellenistic culture in Alexandria. To summarize the significance of the achievements of Hellenistic scholars. Bell Ringer: Write about one of the following statements: 1. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement and why: “(You must) be moderate in order to taste the joys of life in abundance.” – Epicurus OR 2. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement and why: “Extravagance is its own destroyer.” - Zeno Class Activity:  Acting like a Greek  Living a Hellenistic Life Homework: Greek Project (Due November 30, 2009)</p>
