TENNEY (Shakespeare Day on Friday.)</p><p>World War I: The “Great Stalemate” That Changed the World Part 2: The “War to End All Wars”</p><p>The Allies – the Triple Entente – were able to stop Germany in France, before Germany could overrun Paris and effectively “end” the war in one quick stroke. But the French and British forces arrayed against Germany, east of Paris, were unable to defeat their foes. Thus, the war actually ground to a smoldering stalemate, with efforts made on both sides to outflank the other, nearly all of which were failures. This terrible situation was unplanned for, and neither side had the strategic resources or intelligence to make the situation “break” in their favor.
