The following sub-paragraphs address the major activities and corresponding control methods and metrics within the overall process,  Activity 1 initiates the process. Each current member is requested to submit two “yellow sheets” on candidate members each year. Candidate members are generally drawn from the local business community. Metric is number of “yellow sheets” per member per year. Metric maintained by VP Membership.  Activities 3&4 and 6&7 provide for a screening process on the proposed new member at the BOD level as well as the general membership level. Any member may vote down a proposed new member for any reason. This sub process affords the existing membership the opportunity to deny membership to anyone with whom there may have been a previous negative encounter.  Activity 9 is most important in that the prospective member is thoroughly briefed regarding the objectives and purposes of the Rotary club. Further, the expected commitment in time and effort required of the new member is explained. This quality control checkpoint ensures that there is no misunderstanding of the overall commitment to service that is expected of Rotarians.  Activity 10 is important as the $$ paid indicate the commitment by the new member.  Activity 12 is that activity that actually gets the new member into Rotary. Once registered with Rotary International (R.I.), the new member receives the Rotarian magazine and is entitled to all the benefits of R.I.  Activity 15 is the ceremony of Induction that officially welcomes the new member into the local Rotary club.  Activities 19 - 20 - 21 generally cover a six month to a year period during which the new member and his/her sponsor work together on specific projects and activities that result in the new member becoming fully indoctrinated in to the Rotary club. Metric is how quickly the 10 items of indoctrination are worked off. Removal of the “New Member” sticker from the name tag of the individual indicates a completion of the indoctrination activities.

Jake McMichael President Elect 2006-07 Rotary Club of Wilsonville
