Students are responsible for correcting class work during class review or for homework. . Complete credit for class work is received after corrected homework is resubmitted. . All corrected class work must be turned in for credit. </p><p>QUIZZES and TESTS: . Quizzes include Dictation, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Grammar, as well as chapter and unit tests. Arrange to make up missed quizzes and tests. . Students may retake tests to raise a low test grades. . The semester final includes all material covered in class. Students have access to all their corrected class work on file for review before tests.</p><p>PARTICIPATION: . Participation includes volunteering answers, being a part of discussions, writing on the board, reading aloud, and contributing to the spirit of the class in the learning process. . Students will be responsible for keeping their current class work in a notebook section labeled ELD.</p><p>MATERIALS: Please have these materials in class at all times: . two pens . two pencils . colored pen or pencil . eraser . binder and notebook paper . class work, notes and handouts in a designated section of your binder . computer flash drive (recommended) . bilingual dictionary You may check out a school dictionary to use at home. Please keep an English dictionary and a bilingual dictionary (example: Spanish/English) at hand where you do homework. </p><p>Coursework</p><p>Throughout the year, we use the class textbooks and workbooks. We use various other materials and methods for oral and written language practice, including games and computer programs. We practice reading and writing strategies to improve comprehension and communication and to help develop higher level thinking skills. We practice listening and speaking through class discussions and presentations.</p><p>Friday is usually game day. Word games provide challenging recreation as well as opportunities for developing vocabulary, flexible thinking, patience, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Some Fridays, read aloud selections explore literature genres, including poetry, fables, short stories, humor and plays.</p><p>English Language Standards</p><p>The standards tell us what students need to learn about Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Our textbook provides practice for all the English Language Standards. In our class, the emphasis is on reading fluency, word analysis, paraphrasing, summarizing, expressing detail, and formal writing and writing conventions.</p><p>Extra help </p><p>My hours for extra help are Monday through Thursday 3:00 – 4:00 and other times by appointment.
