<p>Job Description – Assistant Mentoring Coordinator</p><p>Full-time summer contract July 3 – August 25th 2 positions available 30 hours/week – Flex time including evenings and weekends</p><p>Responsible to: Mentoring Coordinator(s) Executive Director</p><p>Function The Assistant Mentoring Coordinator will provide casework management in accordance with the National Standards set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. S/he will be responsible for providing assistance to a Mentoring Coordinator in matching volunteer mentors with children and youth, and to monitor those matches to ensure the healthy development of the relationships.</p><p>The Assistant Mentoring Coordinator will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the Agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.</p><p>Assistant Mentoring Coordinator Responsibilities:</p><p>. the assistant Mentoring Coordinator will be matched as a Mentor to a child or youth within our organization upon completion of the agency’s enrollment process. Mentor responsibilities include: o participate in Pre-Match training administered by the agency. o maintain regular dialogue with program staff throughout the match o be a friend to their mentee, and maintain contact on a regular and consistent basis o be a positive role model, emphasizing behaviour such as trust, respect, reliability, honesty, fairness, commitment, resilience, kindness o place primary importance upon the protection and well-being of children and youth o be supervised and supported by, and remain accountable to, program staff o be clear in communication with mentee’s parents/guardians, particularly around contacts, timing, planned activities and issues of concern o maintain regular and open communication with mentee, his/her parents/guardians, and the agency o take initiative in planning your time with your mentee, yet include him/her in decision making o always let your mentee know when s/he can expect to see you next o allow the friendship to develop at its own pace o promptly report any concerns about the match to the Agency o set and respect boundaries along with your mentee, parents/guardians, and program or site-based staff o respect the privacy and diversity of your mentee and his/her family o commit to a positive, formal closing of the mentoring match o follow agency and child protection protocols as discussed in your training - your program staff are always able to guide and support you </p><p>May 2017 . accept and document application of potential volunteers and clients (including parent, guardian, child, youth, etc.) . assist in the intake of children and volunteers including orientation, interviewing, screening etc. . assist in planning relevant group based summer program and execute program delivery for children and youth on our waiting list . conduct reference checks of potential volunteers . conduct the Pre-Match Training program with Mentors, Mentees and parents/guardians . maintain case notes on all cases in accordance with the National Standards . facilitate match closure process for Mentor, Mentee and parent/guardian . provide regular reports to Executive Director, or special reports as requested . maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in agency Privacy and Confidentiality Policy . ensure all mentees, parents/guardians and Mentors are informed of any pertinent agency information such as group programs, change of policy, change of address etc. . perform administrative functions as required to manage caseload . assist with recreation events as required . complete a performance appraisal including goals and objectives for summer employment . remain aware of federal and provincial privacy legislation and the agency’s privacy policies and practices</p><p>Qualifications The Assistant Mentoring Coordinator must be enrolled in a post-secondary diploma in a related field for the 2017/2018 school year (e.g. education, social or human services, child and youth work, family studies etc.).</p><p>In addition to this, the agency may require the Assistant Mentoring Coordinator to have: . successful submission of a clear police abstract including vulnerable sector . effective oral and written communication skills . strong problem solving skills . ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds . ability to work independently and as part of a team . sound computer skills . ability to work flexible hours . access to a vehicle</p><p>If you have the above mentioned qualifications please submit your resume and cover letter by June 9, 2017.</p><p>NO PHONE CALLS please.
