<p> Fine & Performing Arts Department</p><p>Instrumental Music Program Objectives:</p><p>By the end of this school year:  You will understand the basics of music notation and reading  You will be able to play your instrument with an excellent quality of sound  You will be able to actively listen within an ensemble setting and understand how your part fits into the collection of sound  You will have performed in at least 2 concerts! </p><p>Important Dates to Remember:</p><p>Week of September 19 – Pull-Out Lessons Begin! Thursday December 8, 2016: Winter Concert Wednesday, May 10, 2017: Spring Concert</p><p>Please note: All students who are enrolled in the instrumental music program are required to participate in both concerts. Please mark your calendars now to avoid any scheduling conflicts!</p><p>Required Materials:</p><p>An instrument to use for lessons, private practice, rehearsals, and concerts acquired by either:  Rented/Purchased from Elefante Music or another vendor of your choice  Already owned  Borrowed from the school (available on a case-by-case, first-come-first-served bases due to financial hardships)</p><p>A lesson book acquired from either Elefante Music or through an online vendor:  For Band Members (flute, clarinet, saxophones, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and percussion) we use: “Standard of Excellence- Book 1”  For Orchestra Members (violin, viola, cello) we use: “Essential Elements – Book 1” o Please Note: if you rent an instrument from Elefante Music, your rental includes the required book! Expectations:</p><p> Practice at home at least 5 days every week  Be on time and prepared for your weekly lesson  Be positive, engaged, and always try your best  Demonstrate proper posture  Use the bathroom before or after your lesson time (remember, we only have 30 minutes, one time a week! You do not want to miss anything important  )  HAVE FUN!!! Fine & Performing Arts Department</p><p>Lesson Schedule:</p><p>Every student will have one thirty-minute lesson each week. The day of your lesson will always be the same but will be at a different time each week. This rotating schedule ensures that you are not missing the same half hour slot more than once every ten weeks. You will be responsible for making up any missed classwork while you are out for your lesson. You are responsible for arriving to your lesson on time each week.</p><p>Lessons and rehearsals normally take place on the stage in the cafeteria. You will be notified of any changes to your lesson location.</p><p>Lesson Requirements:</p><p>You are required to bring the following items to every lesson, rehearsal, and concert:  Your instrument  All music in your music folder  Your book  A pencil</p><p>Lesson Procedure/Class Rules:  Enter quickly and quietly  Assemble your instrument and sit at the table closest to the stage  Proceed to your assigned seat  Check the board for “do now”  Keep your hands/feet to yourself</p><p>Rewards! You always have the chance to earn stickers and small rewards during your lesson. Demonstrating hard work, practice, effort, and dedication will earn you stickers. The more stickers you earn, the closer you get to winning a prize from the treasure chest!
