<p> R-1.</p><p>May 20, 2002</p><p>MAYOR SULLIVAN VICE MAYOR DAVIS COUNCILLOR DECKER COUNCILLOR GALLUCCIO COUNCILLOR MAHER COUNCILLOR MURPHY COUNCILLOR REEVES COUNCILLOR SIMMONS COUNCILLOR TOOMEY</p><p>WHEREAS: The Sabre Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1969 by a group of recent American University graduates with the aim of examining the philosophical underpinnings of free institutions and working to enhance their vitality; and</p><p>WHEREAS: One of Sabre’s long-standing philosophical programs, Sabre Book Donation Program, was initiated in 1986 as a practical application of many lessons learned from the Foundation’s conceptual examination of free institutions; and</p><p>WHEREAS: This project makes millions of dollars worth of donated books available to needy individuals in developing and transitional societies worldwide through non-government partner organizations, libraries, universities, schools, research organizations and other similar institutions; and</p><p>WHEREAS: Since 1986, Sabre Foundation has shipped close to over 5 million new books, donated by more than 200 publishers, to libraries, universities, schools and hospitals in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Asia; and</p><p>WHEREAS: The Sabre Foundation will celebrate the Grand Opening of the new BOOK DISTRIBUTION CENTER in the hospitable City of Lawrence on Friday, May 31, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 5 Franklin Street; now therefore be it</p><p>RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record congratulating the Sabre Foundation in opening its new Book Distribution Center and wish them continued success; and be it further </p><p>RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to the SABRE FOUNDATION on behalf of the entire City Council. </p><p>In City Council May 20, 2002.
