He has visited more than 70 countries and regions, organized more than 10 international academic conferences, organized 79 international training courses on tropical agriculture for 3824 participants from more than 90 countries. He has promoted the establishment of long-term friendly and cooperative relations with more than 10 international organizations and research institutions, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), and the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). He made his institution designated as "FAO Reference Center for Tropical Agriculture Research and Training" by FAO in 2014. He also promoted CIAT and CATAS jointly found the international academic journal Tropical Grasslands (SCI), and recommended CIAT to win the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of Hainan Province in 2019. He has undertaken more than 30 international cooperation or national projects. Through these projects, 7 foreign technologies and more than 60 foreign experts were introduced, among whom there were two experts, Prof. Rainer Schutze Craft and Dr. Segenet Kelemu, won the Friendship Award of the Chinese Government, and two experts, Dr. Peter Karriage and Dr. Sukumar, won Hainan Coconut Island Award. In 2001, his institution was awarded as the Talent Introduction Demonstration and Promotion Base for Tropical Forage Breeding by the State Administration of Foreign Experts. Professor Guodao Liu has published more than 460 academic papers in Chinese and English in New Physiology, Acta Prataculturae Sinica and other academic journals. He has published 18 monographs, including Hainan Grass Records, Hainan Sedge Records, Hainan Forage Flora Records and China Tropical Forage Varieties Records, and edited 4 textbooks including Tropical Forage Cultivation and Tropical Crops Germplasm Resources. He edited 3 sets of popular science series, including Practical Technologies for Animal Husbandry in Southern Agricultural Areas of China. He, as the first or the main completion person, has won more than 30 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards (including 8 first prizes), including the First Prize of Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Award , the Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Team Award, the Chinese Agricultural Science Popularization Award from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Natural Science Special Award, the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award, and the First Prize of Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Award from Hainan Province. He, as the first or the main completion person, has bred 29 officially recognized forage varieties including Reyan No. 4 King Grass, and obtained 6 national invention patents and 10 national utility model patents. Has bred 29 officially recognized forage varieties, and obtained 2 new varieties protection rights. Reyan No.4 King Grass is the most important mowing grass in Southern China with an annual yield of 15000-25000 kg for fresh grass per mu, which has been selected to enter the Ten-Year Achievement Exhibition of Agricultural Development in China, and has become the main forage for house feeding and breeding in Southern China. Stylosanthes is the most important tropical legume forage in Southern China. There is a saying "Alfalfa in the North and Stylosanthes in the South". It has become the dominant grass and forage variety in the South. The new varieties have been popularized for more than 38 million mu, with remarkable economic, ecological and social benefits..
