TO BRAZIL The program, launched on May 11, will allocate R$ 400 million in funds to combat the pandemic in Brazil. Of this total, R$ 320 million were earmarked to meet the most urgent needs of the localities mapped involving 18 state governments, the FGD (Federal District) and 197 Brazilian municipalities benefiting more than 63 million people. Under the coordination of Joanita Maestri Karoleski, former CEO of Seara, 30 team members are exclusively dedicated to the program. In addition to the financial resources, JBS has also contributed with its asset structure and professionals in the Supplies, Logistics, Legal, Compliance, Fiscal Engineering, Human Resources and Finance fields. In addition, consultants Tyno and Grant Thornton have waived their fees and are supporting the program in the administrative and donation auditing areas, respectively. The donations are being converted into goods or services depending on regional demands. “Brazil has very specific situations and needs across its various regions, and we are organizing the allocation of the resources according to the requests from states and municipalities, but always focused on healthcare, social assistance and science,” Joanita explained. Return to index 3 In addition to the exclusive team and the support of the different areas of JBS, a team of 130 of the Company’s professionals worked on mapping the regional demands together with over 200 local governments. This study involved diagnosing the local healthcare system, an analysis of how the virus is being propagated and how the JBS Doing Good Does Good Program could contribute to the healthcare and social assistance systems in support of the fight against the pandemic. In possession of the demands and based on the assumptions established by the independent committee, the investment decisions were drawn up to ensure that help gets to those who need it most as quickly as possible. The criteria adopted by Doing Good Does Good are supported by cross-checking data between the information collated from municipalities and states and a robust data base made available by the Albert Einstein, HCor, Sírio-Libanês hospitals and by Bionexo. This data base has consolidated on a single platform the registrations of cases of the disease, the number of deaths, the trend curve, geolocalization and local infrastructure. Return 4 to index A portfolio was also defined, consisting of inputs, hospital equipment, medications, and other essential items for combatting the pandemic. TAll these decisions were taken unanimously in the Consultative, Scientific and Social Committee, in the same manner as the definitions for donating to scientific research projects or to not-for-profit social organizations were taken in the scientific and social committees, respectively. DOING GOOD DOES GOOD Feeding the World with Solidarity Return to index 5 HEALTHCARE COMMITTEE The committee consists of Fernando Torelly, CEO of the HCor; Henrique Sutton de Sousa Neves, director-general of the Albert Einstein Hospital; Maurício Barbosa, founder and chairman of the board of Bionexo; Mohamed Parrini, CEO of the Moinhos do Vento Hospital in Porto Alegre; Paulo Magnus, president of MV Systems (healthcare management software); and Roberto Kalil Filho, chairman of the board of the InCor. “With the decisions on donations supported by committees of specialists, JBS has made it possible to bring to bear the experience of important Brazilian hospitals familiar with the reality of the SUS system, for example, in identifying priority items for tackling the pandemic and, consequently, in taking the proper decisions about the funds that will reach the different areas of Brazil,” Torelly explains. “The proceeds from JBS are affording something vital for beating the pandemic: speed of response.
