The SRTM University, Nanded has already taken an initiative to open the Distance Education (External Mode) for the educationally deprived people, the unreached students in this region and those working in the various sectors. In India external education opportunities at the university level have increased enormously. Most of the conventional universities have been running Distance Education Programmes on their campuses. Recently, there has been a tremendous awareness throughout the country about the significance of higher education but the conventional system seems not able to accommodate the increasing demand of the students. Therefore, the spread of higher education through distance mode is getting world recognition and acceptance. University A Profile:- Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded has been carved out from Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Later it was renamed as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. The purpose of Swami Ramanand Teerth University is to establish and promote facilities for advanced, applied education and research in the jurisdiction of the university that includes four districts namely Nanded, Parbhani, Latur, and Hingoli. This University has been considered a premier institution of Teaching, Learning, and research. The University was established on Sept.17, 1994 under Maharashtra University, Act. 1994 Section IV. The Headquarter of this university is Nanded, a holy City situated on the banks of the river Godavari, the southern part of Maharashtra. This university has been named after Swami Ramanand Teerth, the Doyen of the Hyderabad Liberation Struggle and also renowned educationist, Social activist & beyond that a great Freedom Fighter. In a short Span of time the university has been granted recognition by the UGC Delhi, the apex educational body of govt. of India under 2 (f) and 12 (B) The university has been accredited with ‘B’ grade by the NAAC in Sept. 2010 and the ‘A’ grade in Jan 2015. The University has visualized with non-conventional course with a school System for campus Teaching and learning to initiate and promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies. The university has redesigned and developed syllabi and courses that are characterized by innovative ways in teaching learning and evaluation with emphasis on the research aspect, consultancy and extension Services. Right now the university has entered into Global perspective with a number of tools and products of higher education. Now the strength and number of affiliated colleges have gone up to 364 and total strength has reached about 1.50 Lakes with 14 postgraduate Schools on the campus with moderate, advanced and Technology based infrastructure. The university imparts education mainly in the faculties of Arts, Commerce, Management, science, Social Sciences, Education, Law, Pharms, Ayurveda, Medical, Engineering & Technology, Library Science, and Computational Courses & Mass Media. University started Sub-Center at Latur and Parbhani, New Model Degree College at Hingoli and Tribal Research Centre at Kinwat. Directorate of Distance Education (External Mode), SRTMU Nanded :- Distance Education (External Mode) is a generic term that includes range of teaching Learning Strategies variously described as home Study, Correspondences education or independent Study. It is a highly welcome step in the direction of taking education to the doors of those who are willing to acquire higher education but being unable to continue education due to lack of resources or paucity of time. Distance Education (External Mode) System fulfills the needs in Education to the distant learner who has been engaged is Service, business, working in the various fields and who has been a drop out of the education process. In India Distance Education Opportunists at the university levels have increased enormously. Most of the Conventional Universities have been running distance Education programs on the campus. Many new trends are putting great pressure on the conventional education Systems forcing many institutions to review their existing policies & procedure. In this light Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathawada University, Nanded took the decision to establish a Directorate of Distance Education (External Mode) (DDE) in 2009 a Directorate of Distance Education (External Mode) was setup in the administrative building of the University. Currently Distance Education department running Undergraduate and post graduate programmes. There are three undergraduate courses like B.A., B. Com and BBA in a semester pattern as per the University Syllabus and examination pattern. Department also offer 12 post graduate courses like MA Marathi, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Political Sciences, History, Sociology, Public administration, Economics and Master of Commerce in External Mode under annual pattern. From the last 5 years the growth in the registered students is tremendous. Last year near about 4000 students have been admitted for the post graduate courses run by the distance department. 03. Objectives of the Directorate Distance Education (External Mode):-To provide educational Facilities 1) To more number of learners from the various age groups. 2) To different section of the society who are unable to pursue education & to bring them into the main stream. 3) To the female class of the society who has remained deprived because of domestic responsibilities & Social restrictions. 4) To all sections of the society irrespective of caste, religion gender, area of origin, Social and financial status.
