She has perfected the art of the maid of honor speech, delivering heartfelt toasts to the happy couples. And her “something new” gifts – stunning, handmade jewelry designed to complement the bride and her dress – are given with love and received with awe. Becca doesn’t worry that she is “always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” An unapologetic romantic, she believes true love will happen instantly and effortlessly when the right person comes along. She gracefully evades well-meaning, if unsolicited, offers to fix her up with various eligible men, knowing that love can’t be forced. While Becca is firm in her convictions about love, she’s less certain when it comes to her work at the insurance agency founded by her parents, Joyce (Desiree Zurowski) and Richard (Fred Henderson). With her parents about to retire, preparations have begun to transfer ownership of the successful business to Becca. Yet as proud as she is of her parents’ achievements, Becca can’t quite convince herself that she’s as excited about the takeover as they are. It’s all Becca can do to juggle her expanding workload with the 10-week timetable of her cousin Lucie’s (Stephanie Bennett) June wedding to Craig (Clayton Chitty). She also must manage the expectations of happy couple, who are trying to pair her up with Craig’s college roommate Aidan (Jeremy Guilbaut), who is best man to Becca’s maid of honor. Meanwhile, there’s another man in the picture, or more accurately, behind the camera: Kyle Taylor (Paul Campbell), the handsome wedding videographer who has been hired by Lucie’s producer father Paul (Barry Levy) to document every step of the couple’s journey to the altar. Kyle most definitely does not share Becca’s philosophy of love, but they have other things in common, notably outspokenness and creative aspirations that go beyond their day jobs. Kyle recognizes Becca’s talent and passion for jewelry design and urges her to take advantage of a bridal shop’s interest in showing her work. And Becca is just as adamant that Kyle move forward with his career as a documentary filmmaker after he shows her portions of his current, deeply personal project. By the weekend of the wedding, Becca and Kyle’s mutual support have edged them closer to their dreams, and to romance. But Becca nearly extinguishes the growing spark between them when Kyle learns she has allowed her uncle to view part of his unfinished film without his knowledge or permission. With a new understanding of love, Becca sets aside her prepared maid of honor remarks to speak directly from her heart – hoping that she will touch Kyle’s.
