Connexion ARC presents Richard Layzell’s The Naming on May 31 at 6pm in the Charlotte Street Arts Centre Auditorium The Naming is a major new work by UK-based performance artist, Richard Layzell, which challenges categorization and conventions in contemporary art practice and in ecology. This ambitious project draws on Layzell's previous experience in galleries, the art industry and his extensive work with communities to question evolved norms and perceived boundaries in: institutions, galleries, installations, performances, artist residencies, socially engaged practices, and public spaces. The Saint John String Quarted presents Bass-Ic: It’s All about the Bass in McCain Hall on May 31 at 7:30pm The Saint John String Quartet is joined on stage by Symphony New Brunswick’s principal bass player, Andrew Miller in a concert featuring these SNB musicians as a String Quintet. The lush sound of the string quartet is enhanced by the extra bass voice. Tickets are available at the door: Adults $26/ Students $10/ Children under 12 and STU faculty, staff and students – free. Solo Chicken Productions presents A Record of Us in the Black Box Theatre on June 1 at 7:30pm A Record of Us was created using the text of celebrated New Brunswick author David Adams Richards as the catalyst, resulting in a physical theatre performance that evokes the raw beauty, enduring humour, and hardscrabble realities of life in this province. It was the main stage offering at the 2016 NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival and was created through residency opportunities with Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and the Fredericton Playhouse. POSTDATA with Quiet Parade at The Capital on June 1 at 8pm The frontman of beloved Nova Scotia alternative outfit Wintersleep, Paul Murphy has built a circle of collaborators, friends, and family around him for more than a decade. Murphy first released music with Postdata in 2010, a self-titled debut that saw him working with his brother Michael to record a set of songs that dealt with family, legacy, and connection. Now, Postdata returns with Let’s Be Wilderness, a record characterized by those two old bickering friends: love and death. The audience will be amazed at the high level of talent that is presented in the genres of ballet, contemporary and jazz in this mixed program. The choreography is artistic and original.
