St.Paul's McKinnon JFC Newsletter From the Secretary June 28 2018 What a brilliant weekend for footy, with AFL footy visits, photos & celebrations. Auskick Our Auskickers were brilliant to kick off the weekend. With more than 120 kids for Grandparents and Special Friends Day, the boys and girls had a ball playing against their special person/s that came to help each of the coaches teach some of the fundamentals for our next generation of Demons. Michelle and the team are fantastic giving guidance on how to play and giving each of the kids a game at the end of the session. It is a sight to see the kids and the parents all get behind the song and give our song the gusto to set the weekend of sport. Seniors Saturday morning and the thirds were on fire to kick off our seniors footy with 11.15-81 against Endeavour Hills 6.5-41. The Reserves then backed up the day with a very good game of fast, dramatic footy kicking 20.11-131 to Chelsea Heights 6.5-41. The Reserves lead the Div 1 Reserves Ladder leading into this week’s home game (McKinnon Reserve) on Saturday at Midday against Bentleigh. Our seniors Div 1 team then finished off the Saturday events to see St Pauls kick 17.16-118 to Chelsea 5.6-36. This secured St Paul’s into 3rd position and heading into a clash against Bentleigh on Saturday this week at 2.15pm. Please feel free to come on down to the ground to watch our boys in action. Also please note that Ladies Day is on this weekend for all junior mums, grandmothers, girlfriends and friends to go and watch a fantastic match of footy. Please contact the secretaries for further details. Juniors With 5 games played at home last weekend, I had the privilege to see our U11 Yellow team play against one of the top Prahran teams to kick off the festivities at 8.45am on Sunday. With Lincoln and Paddy playing 50 games and celebrating in style, the boys stepped up their game to win a tough game. The U8s then took to Oval 2 and had a good game to follow on with U9 green, whilst the U14 Div 4 played a tough match on Oval 1 to follow on with the U14 Div 2 playing a tight game against St Bede’s/Mentone. Our away teams had a great run with a mixed bag of results, with the girls’ teams stepping up again. The U14 Demonettes played a really tight game only to top Oakleigh in the final minutes by 5 points and our U16 girls teams played a really enjoyable game against East Malvern. A great result for all the boys and girls with footy winning on Sunday. In the last couple of weeks we also saw Thivain Salwathura top his 50 games – great job Thivi! Lighting Progress The Glen Eira Council have advised that the poles have been ordered, the soil has been tested for founda- tions to be laid. We are awaiting a progress on the lamps to be delivered before the installation proceeds. Demon Pride Whilst on holidays, remember to take your training top with you and get a happy snap. The competition has some real traction now that there is a cash prize up for grabs for the kids to win!!!! Just simply take a photo of your child showing off their training top in an unusual place to show how proud they are to wear the Demon. It must be creative. It must be original. It must be fun. Simply send your photo to SPMJFC: demon. [email protected] with your name, your child’s name and phone number. Three lucky winners will win a free registration for 2019 and a winner from each age group will win $50 cash each. Winners will be deter- mined and announced in August. Good Luck. Demon of the Month What a great night to top off the Sunday night. Our second Demon of the Month. The kids were super excited to see who would receive the award that pays tribute to behaviour, respect and resilience. Amazing traits to show in this game and our club. The coaches are very fortunate each Demon of the Month to have a great selection of kids that demonstrate different attributes. It is an amazing privilege to have you all in our club and the club commend you. It is great to have you and your families as part of the St Paul’s McKinnon Football Club community. Watch out for the final Demon of the Month. It will be a fantastic night with some surprises in stall! At the Demon of the Month, we were very fortunate to have two people awarded with a Life Membership to the club. Brendan Kiely was awarded for his 12 years of contribution to the club in varying roles. From being a committee member in 2006 through to 2010, including Junior Vice President, Senior Vice President, News- letter Co-ordinator, Auskick Co-ordinator, his varying roles as Team Manager over the years that his three sons, Campbell, Lachlan and Harrison played at the club and Website Co-ordinator from 2006 to present. Brendan is a well deserved St Pauls McKinnon JFC Life Member. Simon Forer was also presented with his Life Membership for his dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to the club. From 2011-12, Simon was coach of the U8 & U9 teams, he was treasurer of the club in 2013 and brought about an accounting methodology to provide the foundation for the club to be in a financial position of strength. He played a pivotal role as President in 2014-15 with his amazing work ethic and bringing the Auskick centre from Valkstone to McKinnon, whilst fighting for the electronic scoreboard that we have today. Simon was a committee member in 2016 and remains as Team Manager for our U15 merge team with Highett this year. In-between his roles as boundary umpire, co-ordinator for packing up the ground each Sunday and opening on others, he has played an enormous role in growing the girls football at St Pauls McKinnon JFC to where it is today. I am proud to induct Simon into the Life Members of SPMJFC and look forward to many more years with him as Rachel and Jack continue their football journeys. Congratulations and thank you to both Brendan and Simon for all the years of service you have put into our children at the club. You are both fantastic individuals! AFL Player Club Visit We were very fortunate to have the Melbourne Footy club players visit on Monday night. It was great hav- ing seven Melbourne Players help out with our boys and girls. Christian Petracca, Neville Jetta, Jay Kennedy Harris, Declan Keilty, Bayley Fritsch, Oskar Baker & Cameron Pedersen took the boys and girls for a training session on their own over the night and then finished off with some tough questions about favourite colours of clouds, superstitions, injuries, inspirations, motivations, food, skills and training drills. Despite having some injuries from the weekend’s big win, the Melbourne Demons were fantastic with our kids. Good luck for the rest of the season boys. Go Demons!!! 2019 Sponsors We are currently working toward our 2019 planning year. If you know of anyone who would like to become a sponsor for next year, please feel free to contact me as we already have had some interest from existing sponsors. Holidays I hope that you all enjoy your well deserved break over the school holidays. If you are going away, please travel safely. If you are not going anywhere and enjoying the Melbourne weather, please feel free to get out with a footy and have a kick. I hope to see you at the seniors match on Saturday and if you need any- thing please feel free to contact me. Go Demons!
