Collector’s Administrative History The Combines Services Trust Committee appears to have been established following the disbandment of military units at the University of British Columbia in the 1960s. The history of military activity associated with the University dates back to 1914 with the founding of the Canadian Officers' Training Corp at McGill University College of B.C. by Harry Logan. Disbanded in 1920, the C.O.T.C. unit at UBC was reorganized by Logan in 1928. During World War II, units of the Navy and Air Force were added to the campus military activity and together the units trained a total of 1,680 students for commissions. After the war enrolment in the service units declined but 50 to 100 students continued to train until 1968, when the units were disbanded. Scope and Content The collection consists of records generated by the Canadian Officers' Training Corps (UBC) and the 196th Western Universities Battalion. With the exception of the Daily Orders volumes and the annual reports of the Air Force, the bulk of the remaining material relates to World War I and the UBC Roll of Service. The photographs and albums, the latter including memorabilia as well as photographs, depict World War II and post-war activities. Notes File list available. Related records may be found in the Alma Mater Society fonds. File List BOX 1 Canadian Officers' Training Corps - Daily Orders 1928-40, 1941, 1942-46, 1943-46 Service Roll, U.B.C.
