36 4 Background The Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2017 (No. 39/2017) was signed into law by the President on 23rd December 2017 and provides for new Dáil constituencies, which will take effect at the next Irish general election for the 33rd Dáil. The next general election is due by 12 April 2021 at the latest, but may take place before then. This Act replaced the Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2013, which defined the constituencies
