As it was so through three shepherd children, so also was it Pastoral Guidance: so through St. Vincent Pallotti; where on October 1, 1991, he opened the Our Lady of Mercy Region doors to the Church in the capital city of Lisbon's suburbs. All are under the pastoral guidance of Brazil's Our Lady of Mercy Region, seated in Rio de Janeiro. The roots of Pallotti's Portuguese Parish has intriguing origins to capture our attention, and history of our faith. The oldest known document in the history of Odivelas is a Romanesque inscription found in the church of the Monastery of Odivelas, currently on display at the Museu do Carmo in Lisbon. It reports that “João Ramires, First Prelate of this church, died on 13 February 1183 "In 1147, Lisbon was conquered by the Crusaders; João Ramires would be one of those Crusaders who was in charge of the parish of Odivelas. The Mother Church is considered one of the most sumptuous temples of Lisbon. This very old temple was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century, where inside this rich and majestic temple, the nave is decorated with eighteenth-century tiles featuring biblical scenes. The seven altars are in gilded wood. The chancel, all covered in marble of different colors on the walls and ceilings, is a characteristic of the 19th century. Decorated with 18th century tiles alluding to baptism, the baptistery is likely from the 19th century. XVI, and two rocaille style holy water sinks in red marble. In the sacristy, there is a marble toilet from the Renaissance period - 1573 - with a carved ship. It is located near the S. Dinis Monastery, in the old nucleus of the city of Odivelas. www.WeAreAMission.org "WE MUST SEE OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IN EVERYTHING." JOSEPH THE WORKER, ARROJA In the grace of the Church's Protector, the first Eucharist at St. Joseph the Worker Church was celebrated on October 8, 1989; then under two diocesan priests. Initially, the Church was first in a classroom; it soon grew to the cafeteria; and then, not even was that enough to hold the faithful. Transitioning to the school shed- which suffered the likes of wind, rain, and cold winters- a Church was constructed on the city's land. At present, there are currently 175 children, 19 catechists, with an estimated 500 people participating in Eucharistic celebrations. Photos: Fr. It was finally completed in 2010. Its facilities include the church itself, the Queen of Apostles Auditorium Hall, St. Vincent Pallotti basement, as well as several rooms used for various activities, including catechesis. www.WeAreAMission.org CHAPELS Photos provided by Fr.
