January 2019 STIX ‘n PUX - BMHA Newsletter COACH TALK – December Message from Peter Chau! Happy Holidays! As we approach the end-of-year, I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family all the best during this holiday season. I hope that you will get a chance to relax and enjoy what the holidays have to offer. Moreover, a little break from practice plans, early morning and evening ice times and the dreaded rushing home from work in order to get to the game on time! Reminder to Head Coaches Please remember that as a Head Coach, you are ultimately responsible for your team. As such, please ensure you are familiar with PCAHA Rules. I know reading through the rule book is not the first thing you reach for, but it contains relevant and important information that you will need throughout the course of the season. Understanding the rules is a proactive way to prevent potential disappointments and conflicts. Miscommunication is a result of misunderstanding that ultimately results in disagreements, so please always reference PCAHA Rule Book. If you are still unsure, please reach out to the Executives. Development The Executive Board is currently looking at updating our information distribution and resource channels. Two of the areas we are focusing on are refresh of our Website and development camp registration system. As an association, we need to have a better platform to provide timely and relevant information – a trusted source. In addition, better avenues for efficient interaction with our membership is a must. The ability to better support all our volunteers, especially our coaches is paramount. Stay tuned for more updates regarding this initiative. - Cheers, Peter CATS’ CORNER – December Message from Lee Poizer! Pat Quinn Classic Come check out the Peewee A1 Wildcats at the Pat Quinn Classic! It’s the inaugural year for female divisions at the tournament! Development Goalie development: Wildcat goalies continue to take extra development with Veit Goaltending school. The girls are really taking to the instruction and learning a great deal to help them succeed between the pipes. Player Development: All Wildcat teams from Atom to Midget are getting shooting development sessions and video analysis with Base Hockey. With this instruction (and hopefully some practice at home), our Wildcats will hone their shooting skills. Skating development for Novice and Tykes still to come. Esso Fun Day – Girls Try Hockey January 2019 STIX ‘n PUX - BMHA Newsletter The next Wildcats "Esso Fun Day - Girls Try Hockey" event will be coming in February. Dates to be announced soon. If you know any girls interested in trying hockey, this free session is a great introduction to the sport. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Lee WINTER BREAK CLOSURE – No Ice Dates Just a reminder to everyone that the last day of ice before Winter Break is Saturday, December 22rd for all arenas. The first day back on the ice is Wednesday, January 3rd, 2019 for all arenas! BMHA SUCCESS STORIES – Congrats Peewee A2! The BMHA Peewee A2 team traveled to Penticton for the Penticton Minor Hockey Tier 3 Tournament, November 30 – December 2. Currently the A2 team is playing in Flight 7 and this tournament provided the boys the opportunity to play against Okanagan and Lower Mainland teams that play in higher tiers. The team went 4 and 0 in the round robin. This included a 5-2 win over Cloverdale A3, a flight 6 team, and a 9-4 win over Langley A3, a flight 3 squad. The team met Langley, again, in the final and came out on top with a convincing 4-1 victory. In the 5 tournament games the boys outscored their opponents 29 – 9. It was a complete team effort and a great springboard in preparing for the second half of the season. Congratulations to the Peewee A2’s on showing everyone how to play a “team game”.
