Host and iF director Ralph Wiegmann and the presenter Bettina Cramer are a well established team when it comes to handing over the trophies to the 30 iF gold award winners. The award winners were called to the stage in front of an audience of several hundred guests from the areas of advertising, media, business and design. A total of 1,687 entries (compared to 1,367 in 2009) were submitted to this year’s iF communication design award. The jury handed out the coveted iF label 499 times to 480 entries. Twenty of these entries received awards in more than one category. Designers and agencies will receive points in the iF ranking as well as in the national rankings of PAGE magazine and the German W&V Werben und Verkaufen. Impressions from the Jury The 16 strong international expert jury evaluated the entries in the categories of digital media, product interfaces, print media, packaging, corporate archi- tecture, crossmedia and too good to be true. “It was very encouraging to see the large number of different types of entries. We have seen many fantastic entries that communicate their branding in an excellent way, for example in the area of packaging.” Paul Flowers “We had really strong entries in the area of product interfaces. The trend is clearly developing towards ‘touch’. But not just your simple drag & drop, there’s multi-touch and gesture operation. And the products not only impress from a technological point of view but also with their excellent usability and visibly improved efficiency.” Prof. Astrid Beck For further information: iF International Forum Design GmbH “Overall, the quality of the entries was at a high level. However, as far as I’m con- Anja Kirschning, Carmen Wille Messegelaende cerned, the submissions were a bit too traditional. I would have loved to have 30521 Hanover, GERMANY seen more innovative ideas.” phone +49.511.89-32403/-438 fax +49.511.89-32406 Magdalena Frankowska [email protected] [email protected] www.ifdesign.de “Overall, the quality of submissions was excellent. During the previous years, it was pretty hip to enter DVDs, CDs or USB sticks. Today, there is a stronger focus on print, on excellent Web implementations and on representations on mobile end user appliances. “There was also a trend towards using portraits and hand-drawn illustrations. If you like, a turning away from photography and a focus on drawing.” Dr. Andreas Siefke Facts and Figures at a Glance The 499 most outstanding entries that received an iF communication design award 2010 were honored in the following categories: 97 in the category digital media 26 in the category product interfaces 226 in the category print media 54 in the category packaging 59 in the category corporate architecture 32 in the category crossmedia and 5 in the category too good to be true The 30 gold award winners were selected from the above award winners.
