500 Tomcat Lane, Aurora, Illinois 60505 Phone 630-299-8000 / FAX 630-299-8004 From the Principal’s Desk... Dear Tomcat Families, Summer is here! It is hard to believe that the 2017-18 school year is now in the rearview mirror. However, like a mirror we are reflecting upon the school year that was, and continue to seek way to improve when we kick off the new school year in August. Once again this summer, East Aurora High School will see a lot of action. We will be hosting 2 sessions of summer school that will end on July 25th. There June 11-29 are also several athletic summer camps offered to our students as well as the Summer School 21st Century program. Whether you are involved in a summer opportunity or Session 1 not at EAHS, I recommend that all of our Tomcats make sure that they are July 2-25 keeping up with their academic skills. A great way to do this is through the Summer School College Board account that every student set up this year and working with Session 2 Khan Academy to hone in on both reading and math skills. It is as simple as going to the College Board website to get started. July 27 Summer School Construction will also continue this summer as we work to update some of our Graduation Science labs. If you need to come to the school for any reason please use Door 1. Due to the construction activity, all summer school classes will be held Coming in on the new end of the building. In English, students at both the junior and senior levels were able to attend professional theater performances that relate to texts they have read in class. Juniors saw The Burn at the Steppenwolf Theater to go with their study of The Cricible, and senior AP students saw A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier. Senior Rhetoric students were also able to take a guided tour highlighting some of the city locations discussed in the book, The Devil in the White City. Freshmen students in Individual Reading visited the elementary classrooms at Gates to help deliver the gift of reading. In our Fine Arts department, students were able to leave East High for a number of performances in band, choir, and theater. The band was pleased to be able to perform at NIU and to play the Fox Valley Music festival once again. Theater students presented their classroom show to other district students and visited the Paramount to view and reflect upon a professional level performance. Students in all levels of ceramics were able to build pieces for a Raku firing that takes place annually in one of our courtyards. Raku is a process in which the students remove their pieces from the super- hot kiln and place them in containers with straw to produce smoke; this process creates interesting effects in the glazes.
