Some of these data were obtained by the U.S. Geological Survey during World War II, but much new and more detailed information has resulted from this study. The total estimated resources of beryl in New Hampshire are 1,780 tons, of which about 1,200 tons are probably in crystals y / ( MERRIMACK ,- 3 at least 1 inch in diameter, and therefore hand-cobbable at 1957 //X\ prices. Most of this beryl is so scattered throughout the peg­ matites that it represents less than 0.10 percent of the con­ i._A taining rock, and it is recoverable only as a byproduct from ~^ feldspar and mica mining activities. Large deposits containing /' CHESHIREl HILLSBORO fine-grained, nearly indistinguishable white beryl are unknown in the State, but there has been little if any attempt to search for them.
