The big shoots are every weekend through September and we are sell- ing a lot of White Flyer Targets to Gun Clubs. Attendance at most of the State shoots has been up slightly and all this has benefitted from youth shooting. Whether it is 4H; AIM; SCTP or the State High School League among others, the influx of youth shooters and their families has had a profound effect on our shotgun shooting sports. Whether it is their scores or buying habits, this segment has been a boost and shows no sign of letting up. Our sincere thanks to all the coaches and parents and the young people that participate, hopefully, many of these youngsters will be motivated to plan careers in the shooting sports. This new generation of shooters as a result of their participation, strengthen the second amendment plus show that the Shotgun shooting industry is a year round family sport that everyone can participate in. This issue we would like to introduce you to a remarkable young lady shooter from Oklahoma, Abigail Colten, whom which we met in 2018. As you read her article that we reprinted, I think you will be happy and proud to see that young people like this exist. Over the past year we have had the opportunity to stay in contact with Abigail and her parents and numerous times she has mentioned that she would like a future career in the shooting sports industry. Having graduated from High School recently and planning on attending college in the fall, Abigail said she would like to write some articles for the White Flyer Newsletter and write some shoot wrap up articles for shoots she attended – all for the stand point of a young shooter. Specifically, she wanted to gain experience and help the shooting sports. Well, her request was granted and you will notice in this summer news- letter a series of shoot wrap-up’s and photos that Abigail put together for some major shoots in the Midwest and Southwest. We hope that you will enjoy her perspective and different approaches in future issues. Abigail is one example of what these youth programs are developing and offering for the future. We at White Flyer are grateful and excited that we have the opportunity to meet folks like Abagail and her great family – the future of our shooting sports will be in good hands! Most importantly, the Annual Grand American Trapshoot in Sparta, Illinois will be upon us shortly. As we have done for numerous years, we will have our White Flyer Vendor Building at Sparta open during the entire Grand Trapshoot and hope that you will take a moment to stop by and visit. This year we will have a slew of new products for sale, including caps and shirts. As always, we will have that special commemorative Target for you to pick up. Last but not least, all of us on the White Flyer Team want to thank you, the gun club, the shooter and the customer for your support and business throughout the year. Without you folks, none of us would be needed and we sincerely appreciate all of you. Good Shooting and Safe Travels throughout the summer! The stakes were high for the nation’s top shotgun competitors as Pan American Games, International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship and World Cup selec- tion spots were up for grabs at this event. Competition included 250 targets of Qualification over four days, plus today’s Final where additional points were awarded based on finish (three for first, two for second and one for third place). Phillip Jungman Taking top honors in the men’s competition was Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas/U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, pictured above) who overtook the Qualification lead after Day 3 and finished off Qualification with the top score of 243/250 targets. Jungman, who took silver at last year’s Spring Selection, finished the match with an overall score of 246 points, which included three points for his top finish in the Final. He also tied eventual silver medalist, reigning National Champion and his USAMU teammate Christian Elliott (Greenville, Indiana) in today’s Final with a score of 56/60 targets. Taking bronze was Robert Johnson (Phoenix, Arizona), who won the bronze medal by defeating Mark Staffen (Lewis Center, Ohio/USAMU) in a shootoff, 25-24 targets. Vizzi would once again go into a shootoff with Sam Simonton (Gainesville, Georgia), who also had 240 points, to determine silver and bronze medals. The ISSF World Cup season for shotgun kicks off March 17 in Acapulco, Mexico, though top finishers from this match were vying for spots at World Cups later in the season in Changwon, South Korea and Lathi, Finland. A top-two finish in Tucson went a long way toward qualifying an athlete for Pan American Games selection, which will take place July 26-August 11 in Lima, Peru. A top-three standing qualified athletes for the ISSF World Championship for Shotgun for both Open and Junior athletes, which will be contested June 30-July 11 in Lonato, Italy. The top-three Junior finishers are also eligible for the ISSF Junior World Cup, July 12-20 on Suhl, Germany. The Orange Crusher Page 7 Trap Mixed Team Browning/Burrows Wins Silver at World Cup COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (March 20, 2019) The Trap Mixed Team of Kayle Browning (Wooster, Arkansas) and Brian Burrows (Fallbrook, California) won silver today at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico. The duo set a Qualification World Record of 149 targets, with Browning shooting a personal best of 75/75 targets (in Trap Mixed Team, each athlete shoots 75 targets). Once in the Final, Browning/Burrows hit 43/50 targets to win the silver medal. The Australian team of Laetisha Scanlan/James Willett won the gold medal with 46 hits and the Great Britain team of Kristy Barr/Matthew John Coward-Holley won bronze with 34. “In the Final, we chose to put myself shooting first with all the men because nobody would expect that, and the guys would be rattled to not lose to a girl!” said Browning. “The lighting got rough towards the end and it was hard to see the targets, but we did our best and was able to come out with silver.” “I was fortunate to have a great partner for the Mixed Team event,” said Burrows.
