New Wortley Our Place Partners and Quotes For many years New Wortley has been a part of Leeds which featured at the bottom of most indicators, Health, Unemployment, Crime, Housing, environment, education. For whatever reason the population felt forgotten about just putting up with these issues and accepting they lived in an area where life chances were much less than other parts of Leeds only a couple of miles away. New Wortley was part of the Wortley ward, then a few years ago it become part of the Armley ward, it was a ward where it felt worthless. For services and agencies New Wortley was a difficult place to deliver services into, due the challenging nature of the local population and any dialogue was often brief, angry or misunderstood. New Wortley Our Place has brought together a wide range of local people and services all to start to focus on the priorities and key issues in new Wortley. The range and depth of the services listed show that a lot of services are involved in the local area, but the evidence makes you wonder to what outcome? Our Place has helped us build the bridges between services, local people and people who work in the area. It has given us the time and space to ask the questions and hear/ listen to the local people. Our place has given us the space to listen and hear, and listen and hear again, making sure that what our plan is will be community led and focussed. Our place was probably not designed for an area like New Wortley, but we have shown even the most disadvantaged community can benefit from Our Place and use it as a mechanism for change.
