The cargo is being shipped by barge from Paraguay to the USA in partnership with their fellow PCN agent, Janel Group of Los Angeles. The cargo consisted of a ‘1500tn press machine’ (a total of 619,000kgs / 1,475cbm) shipped from Jakarta in Indonesia to Karachi in Pakistan with individual pieces weighing up to 80,000kgs. The cargo was booked on a 10K general cargo vessel, M.V. Hosei 28, which is fitted with 2 x 30tn SWL cranes (60tns combined). Managing Director at Noble, Capt. Mohammad Inam explains: “The real challenge was discharging the 80,000kg packages at Karachi port where the availability of heavy shore cranes is scarce. Unfortunately, the port’s only floating crane, ‘Hathi’ (100tn SWL), was declared ‘out of order’ at the time of booking and there was no notice of when it would be ready to use again. This was a big shock to the owners, operators and charters but realising the situation, we made extraordinary efforts and managed to get the crane repaired in less than 18 hours. Eventually, the vessel had to wait for the light of the next day to discharge the heavy packages and so the total time lost only amounted to about 6 hours. The heavy packages were finally discharged across the ship directly onto the trailers for further road transportation to the site nearly 1,500km from Karachi. The entire discharging operation, under the supervision of our Port Captain, was accomplished in a safe and smooth manner.” HACPL Manager, Mr. Waseem commented: “Many thanks to Noble Shipping Services for all the support and services they have provided. We have received our press machine at our premises safely and in sound condition.” A great example of the excellent services provided by Noble Shipping Services in Pakistan.
