The letters are mostly to Constantine Curran, but some are to his wife Helen (Laird) Curran, and a group are addressed to Thomas Kettle. Among Curran’s literary correspondents were James Joyce; relatives and friends of Joyce; and scholars with an interest in Joyce’s life and writing. The following list describes the Joyce materials. Acquisition: University College Dublin acquired part of Curran’s library, and his manuscript collection, in 1972, from Curran’s daughter (Elizabeth Curran Solterer). Access: a number of letters have been wholly or partly withdrawn to protect the privacy of correspondents or people referred to. For reasons of conservation and security, some letters have been scanned, and the originals replaced by copies. Reproductions: photography and scanning are only undertaken with the permission(s) of the relevant copyright owner(s) Published letters: all letters written by James Joyce to Constantine Curran were published while still in Curran’s possession, in Letters of James Joyce, edited by Stuart Gilbert, London: Faber and Faber, 1957 Curran Papers, James Joyce material, Special Collections UCD Library , 3 Literary manuscripts of James Joyce (1882-1941) Name Contents Format Extent Ms Number Song Heading | 2 verses of 6 lines each Fair copy 1 leaf Cur ms 1 “Though I thy | initials Mithridates were” “He who hath Rule | heading | rule | dedication Fair copy 1 leaf Cur ms 2 glory lost” | 6 lines| initials | date Note 5 lines of text, initialled. 1 leaf Cur ms 22 Tipped in to Le navire d'argent, no. 5, octobre 1925, shelved at 1.T.1/2.
