We were in for a treat with an almost spotless sun and an extremely quiet ionosphere. And as a result DXers all around the world reported exceptional MW reception. th spotless sun November 4 2009 As a result Martin Hall’s column extends to 39 pages with over a hundred personal firsts reported – many of which will turn out to be UK reception firsts too. Once again lucky Martin caught Hawaii and New Zealand and a considerable collection of Japanese signals, and Alaska was almost regular reception in Northern Scotland. Further south good conditions prevailed but as far as I know Alaska was not heard in England (though it was reported in Germany). Medium Wave News 55/07 3 December 2009 Coming Soon - Updated All Time DX Lists It has been a while since the Circle has been able to update & publish the All Time DX Lists containing details of around 2500 MW stations from outside Europe heard in the UK & Ireland. The good news is that Andrew Brade has been working hard updating the lists and improving the underlying spreadsheets. In the early days we distributed the lists in MWN or as paper supplements via the club's Reprint Service. More recently the files were issued as spreadsheets on annual CDs. As the files grew it became increasingly unwieldy to distribute printed paper copies. Now we are making the All Time Lists available to Medium Wave Circle members on-line via the Internet and we are introducing a new development. From 2009 we will be updating the lists on a monthly basis rather than annually. We will still publish a “definitive” annual version, which will be as accurate and complete as possible. But for the active radio listener and anyone who wants to keep on top of news, the monthly updated list will be extremely useful. For the latest news please join other members on the Circle’s Yahoo Group. Dates for your Diary The next meeting of the Reading International Radio Group will be on Saturday December 5 in Room 3, Reading International Solidarity Centre, 35-39 London Street, Reading at 2.30 p.m. The meeting will finish looking at unofficial political radio broadcasting in the UK, have a report on the Dutch Offshore Radio Day, look at the history of radio commercials in the UK, as well as other current and historical radio related items and audio extracts including some Cold War Iron Curtain stations.
