(You will be able to expand on this information further in the following sections). Summary of proposed project: SNAP Youth is seeking funding to facilitate a Thursday evening youth club and a detached youth work session in South Normanton, Derbyshire. The ‘open-access’ youth club and detached sessions will give young people aged 10 – 17 years the opportunity to engage with fun, challenging and social learning activities. The youth workers will use creative measures to engage young people in subjects that are relevant and impactful to their lives and life choices. These will include dealing with fear, controlling anger, peer choices, positive relationships, keeping safe online, adventurous activities verses risky activities, life after school, physical and emotional health and alcohol and substance misuse. The structured activity element of this project aims to prevent the development and/or pattern of antisocial or criminal behaviour from becoming entrenched. In addition, funding will be used to facilitate a programme of peer mentoring training and support sessions for young people. This initiative is designed to equip peer mentors to support younger peers when help and advice is needed. Evidence of need for the project: SNAP Youth currently facilitate youth club sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Young people have been asking for a Thursday night youth club because they say that there is nothing for them to do when school has finished accept hang around the shops. They say that their peers talk at school about getting involved in ‘risky’ activities for fun. They also say that people get pressured to do things that they do not want to do, but don’t know how to say no! The security staff at McArther Glen designer outlet have made contact with SNAP Youth to ask for support with large groups of unsupervised young people who have been engaging in antisocial and criminal activities. Frederick Gent School have communicated the need to support vulnerable young people who are getting caught up in issues relating to ‘county-line’. Local community members have made contact to say that they have had trouble with groups of rude young people shouting insults at them. Who will benefit and how (clear outcomes): Young people will benefit from having a Thursday night youth club and structured detached sessions. This will give them somewhere to go, people who are interested in them and something to do. Local businesses and community members will see a reduction in young people hanging about and becoming a nuisance to others on the streets and in the shops. The peer mentors will directly benefit from the training program, in terms of improving their skills in team work, communication, problem-solving and leadership. The mentees will directly benefit from having someone of a similar age to talk to. This will help reduce isolation, increase self-confidence and their ability to talk through issues and concerns and make informed decisions about life style choices. The mentees will directly benefit from gaining knowledge of support services and where to get support if needed.
