IGIMS is an autonomous Institute of Government of Bihar established on 19th November 1983 with the objective to provide super specialty medical facilities in the State. State Government is totally committed to provide quality Medicare facilities to every citizen in the remotest corner of the state. The work done by this Institute in the field of patient's care and health education during COVID-19 pandemic is praiseworthy. Siddharth) I am glad to present the 37th Annual Report and audited statement of accounts for the year 2019-20. The achievements of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) community reflect a shared dedication to core values of education, research and patient care services. I am pleased to highlight in this report a few of the past year’s remarkable accomplishments, and I am privileged to acknowledge my debt to all the members of IGIMS community who serve it in so many ways. Established in 1983 by an Act of the Bihar Parliament with the objective of the developing a strong curricular foundation for undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare education in Bihar. IGIMS continually seeks to achieve a high standard of healthcare education, research and service. It is recognized in India and globally, as a healthcare institution that best combines excellent medical education with cutting edge research and quality healthcare. IGIMS has manpower of over 2891 including 267 faculty members, supported by 369 resident doctors, nurses, paramedics, non-medical officers and staffs. It produces a large number of specialists (MD/MS), super-specialists (DM/MCh.), Ph.D. scholars and allied health and basic sciences experts, including nurses and paramedical professionals. In the year 2019-20, we awarded 155 degrees in various disciplines. Convocation ceremony was postponed due to Corona pandemic. The 6th annual convocation will be held in April 2021. The institute is running postgraduate courses in Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, FMT, Microbiology, Orthopedics, Pathology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Radio diagnosis, Radiation Oncology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Community medicine, General Medicine & General Surgery. Apart from M.Ch. (Urology), M.Ch (Pediatric Surgery), M.Ch (Neurosurgery) & M.Ch (G.I .Surgery) DM(Gastroenterology), DM (Neurology), this year we have started DM(Cardiology), DM (Nephrology), DM (Clinical Pharmacology). Newer skill acquisition methods through medical simulation systems for practical skill development in experimental laboratories and surgical situation are being put into operation for the benefit of students and resident doctors. We also have a strong rural healthcare training programme at Maner community hospital for training both under and postgraduate students in rural and public practices. Apart from more than 544 corneal donations in the 1st Eye Bank of Bihar established at IGIMS, we have successfully completed 71 kidney transplants. From a brain death patient we successfully harvested the heart & liver. Recently we have installed second state of Art Cath Lab and more than 100 congenital heart disease patients were treated through RBSK programme, also we have started Tissue Bank, ATLS Lab and Knee transplant unit. It is due to its single-minded devotion to developing dynamic leaders with creativity, intellectual rigour and professionalism fit for 21st century healthcare that retained its position at the top among the Bihar Medical Colleges in the state of Bihar. In an effort to foster a culture that values and promotes diversity inclusion, mentoring and service, IGIMS has finalized new orientation programme which is now clubbed with normal teaching programme for the newly admitted MBBS students for their personality and academic enrichment, because the classes are starting from 2nd February, 2021 due to Corona pandemic. Biswas, Director IGIMS, Institute has achieved numerous laurels in the area of innovative Research. There has been significant increase in the submission of Research proposals both intramural and extra-mural including clinical trials. As Research is one of the important pillars of any vibrant academic Institute, we through Research cell would like to provide all possible valuable guidance & mentoring so that we can reach the pinnacle of Research thereby helping the humanity by lessening their sufferings.
