Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna has made great strides in pushing forward innovations. It also did commendable job in providing health care in the state during COVID-I 9 pandemic. I congratulate Director and his team on this occasion and wish the grand success of the event. (Phagu Chauhan) Chief Minister Bihar “MESSAGE” It gives me pleasure to know that Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna is releasing its Annual Report 2019-20 on the eve of 38th Institute Day on 12th February 2021. IGIMS is an autonomous Institute of Government of Bihar established on 19th November 1983 with the objective to provide super specialty medical facilities in the State. State Government is totally committed to provide quality Medicare facilities to every citizen in the remotest corner of the state. The work done by this Institute in the field of patient's care and health education during COVID-19 pandemic is praiseworthy. I hope, the Annual Report will prove to be beneficial and useful to the readers, faculty, students, patients and medical fraternity. On this occasion, I extend my greetings and felicitations to participants & all those associated with the event and also wish the students a very bright future and publication of Annual Report all success. In continuation of the commitment to excel and lead, despite pandemic, IGIMS continued to progress unhaltered by establishing and inaugurating several centres of superspeciality services, including IVF lab, PMR and State Cancer Institute - a state of the art centre of excellence for care of cancer and terminally ill patients. During the tough times of COVID-19 pandemic, when future seemed doom, IGIMS kept progressing and serving the needy with a broad smile of hope, rays of conviction and essence of determination in cuffs. Siddharth) I am glad to present the 37th Annual Report and audited statement of accounts for the year 2019-20. The achievements of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) community reflect a shared dedication to core values of education, research and patient care services. I am pleased to highlight in this report a few of the past year’s remarkable accomplishments, and I am privileged to acknowledge my debt to all the members of IGIMS community who serve it in so many ways. Established in 1983 by an Act of the Bihar Parliament with the objective of the developing a strong curricular foundation for undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare education in Bihar. IGIMS continually seeks to achieve a high standard of healthcare education, research and service. It is recognized in India and globally, as a healthcare institution that best combines excellent medical education with cutting edge research and quality healthcare. IGIMS has manpower of over 2891 including 267 faculty members, supported by 369 resident doctors, nurses, paramedics, non-medical officers and staffs. It produces a large number of specialists (MD/MS), super-specialists (DM/MCh.), Ph.D. scholars and allied health and basic sciences experts, including nurses and paramedical professionals. In the year 2019-20, we awarded 155 degrees in various disciplines. Convocation ceremony was postponed due to Corona pandemic. The 6th annual convocation will be held in April 2021. The institute is running postgraduate courses in Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, FMT, Microbiology, Orthopedics, Pathology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Radio diagnosis, Radiation Oncology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Community medicine, General Medicine & General Surgery. Apart from M.Ch. (Urology), M.Ch (Pediatric Surgery), M.Ch (Neurosurgery) & M.Ch (G.I .Surgery) DM(Gastroenterology), DM (Neurology), this year we have started DM(Cardiology), DM (Nephrology), DM (Clinical Pharmacology). Newer skill acquisition methods through medical simulation systems for practical skill development in experimental laboratories and surgical situation are being put into operation for the benefit of students and resident doctors. We also have a strong rural healthcare training programme at Maner community hospital for training both under and postgraduate students in rural and public practices. Apart from more than 544 corneal donations in the 1st Eye Bank of Bihar established at IGIMS, we have successfully completed 71 kidney transplants. From a brain death patient we successfully harvested the heart & liver. Recently we have installed second state of Art Cath Lab and more than 100 congenital heart disease patients were treated through RBSK programme, also we have started Tissue Bank, ATLS Lab and Knee transplant unit. It is due to its single-minded devotion to developing dynamic leaders with creativity, intellectual rigour and professionalism fit for 21st century healthcare that retained its position at the top among the Bihar Medical Colleges in the state of Bihar. In an effort to foster a culture that values and promotes diversity inclusion, mentoring and service, IGIMS has finalized new orientation programme which is now clubbed with normal teaching programme for the newly admitted MBBS students for their personality and academic enrichment, because the classes are starting from 2nd February, 2021 due to Corona pandemic. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Firstly Greetings from the Research cell Since the inception of Research cell in 2015-16 under the dynamic leadership of (Prof) N.R. Biswas, Director IGIMS, Institute has achieved numerous laurels in the area of innovative Research. There has been significant increase in the submission of Research proposals both intramural and extra-mural including clinical trials. As Research is one of the important pillars of any vibrant academic Institute, we through Research cell would like to provide all possible valuable guidance & mentoring so that we can reach the pinnacle of Research thereby helping the humanity by lessening their sufferings. I congratulate Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Pankaj, and her team for this excellent compilation. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Dean (Research) Dr. Sangeeta Pankaj Team Approach….a flexi-approach….approach to a problem with positive mindset….takes you from rags to riches in medical science… "Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn." With the gloomy dusk of gleam less 2020, we are being ready to embrace upon 2021 with hope of empathy for the ailing humanity and a sense of sympathy, solidarity for the humanity. It is a matter of honor and honours to bring forth the 37th annual report of the institute of 2019-20 which gives a sieving glimpse of what we are doing and what we are committed to. Flipping through the pages of this annual appraisal, one will get to have a glimpse in gist of what the institute meant for in 2019-20 via its humble contributions, though in a small way to the society along with the achievements of its stake holders.

    Current Affairs 2013- January International The Fourth Meeting of ASEAN and India Tourism Minister was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 21 January, in conjunction with the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2013. The Meeting was jointly co-chaired by Union Tourism Minister K.Chiranjeevi and Prof. Dr. Bosengkham Vongdara, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lao PDR. Both the Ministers signed the Protocol to amend the Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN and India on Strengthening Tourism Cooperation, which would further strengthen the tourism collaboration between ASEAN and Indian national tourism organisations. The main objective of this Protocol is to amend the MoU to protect and safeguard the rights and interests of the parties with respect to national security, national and public interest or public order, protection of intellectual property rights, confidentiality and secrecy of documents, information and data. Both the Ministers welcomed the adoption of the Vision Statement of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit held on 20 December 2012 in New Delhi, India, particularly on enhancing the ASEAN Connectivity through supporting the implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. The Ministers also supported the close collaboration of ASEAN and India to enhance air, sea and land connectivity within ASEAN and between ASEAN and India through ASEAN-India connectivity project. In further promoting tourism exchange between ASEAN and India, the Ministers agreed to launch the ASEAN-India tourism website (www.indiaasean.org) as a platform to jointly promote tourism destinations, sharing basic information about ASEAN Member States and India and a visitor guide.
