GOVERNMENT OF TELANGANA GROUND WATER DEPARTMENT:: NAGARKURNOOL DISTRICT STATUS OF GROUND WATER LEVEL SCENARIO (OCTOBER-2020) NAGARKURNOOL DISTRICT DISTRICT GROUND WATER OFFICER NAGARKURNOOL DISTRICT GROUND WATER DEPARTMENT:: NAGARKURNOOL DISTRICT DISTRICT GROUND WATER LEVEL SCENARIO –OCTOBER- 2020 Ground Water Department monitored water levels during OCTOBER-2020 through 31 Piezometers (monitoring stations) covering 20 mandals from Nagarkurnool district. Normal Annual rainfall of the District is 642.30 mm and normal up to OCTOBER 2020 is 563.9 mm. During the water year 2020-21, District received actual rainfall of 992.9 mm against 563.9 mm of normal rainfall up to 31st OCTOBER 2020 (from JUNE 2020) and it ranges from 657.1 mm (Amrabad Mandal) to 1526.9 mm (Kollapur Mandal) and thus there is a 76% Excess rainfall during this period in the District as compared to normal rainfall up to OCTOBER 2020. Eighteen mandals namely Uppununthala, Bijinepally, Achampet, Kodair, Kalwakurthy, Thimmajipet, Vangoor, Balmoor, Veldanda, Urkonda, Charakonda, Nagarkurnool, Pentlavelly, Tadoor, Peddakothapally, Lingal, Telkapally & Kollapur received excess rainfall than normal rainfall (+20% to 154%) and remaining two mandals received Normal rainfall (4 to 6%). Average groundwater level in the District during OCTOBER 2020 is 3.46 meters below ground level (m bgl) and it varies from 0.02 m bgl(shallowest water level is recorded in piezometer at Thurkadinne Village of Kodair Mandal to 15.97 m bgl (deepest water level is recorded in piezometer at Mannanoor Village of Amrabad Mandal). An average net annual rise in Groundwater level of 6.28 m is observed during OCTOBER 2020 (3.46 m bgl) as compared to OCTOBER 2019 (9.74 m bgl) and the rise is observed in all mandals except in Pentlavelly Mandal. A minimum rise of 0.41 m is observed in Kodair Mandal and maximum rise of 27.29 m in Veldanda Mandal. An average net Monthly rise in groundwater levels of 1.61 m is observed during OCTOBER 2020(3.46 m bgl) as compared to SEPTEMBER– 2020 (5.07 m bgl) and the fall is observed from -0.01 m (Kollapur Mandal) to -0.18 m (Telkapally Mandal) and the rise is observed from 0.02 m(Thurkadinne Village of Kodair Mandal) to 7.00 m (Veldanda Mandal). A net average Seasonal rise in groundwater level of 6.48 m is observed during OCTOBER 2020 (3.46 m bgl) as compared to MAY-2020 (9.94 m bgl). Shallow water levels (<5 m bgl) occupy ~70 % of the district area, and more predominant in the district, mostly covering South-western, Eastern, North-eastern, North-western & Central part of District (Pentlavelly, Kodair, Kollapur, Peddakothapally, Amrabad, Padra, Charakonda, Vangoor, Veldanda, Thimmajipet, Telkapally, Tadoor & Uppununthala Mandals). Water levels in the range of 5-10m and 10-15m bgl occupy ~26 % and 2.9 % of the District area respectively Moderately deep (15-20 m bgl) occupy ~0.1% of district area respectively and these are mostly covering Eastern part of the District (Mannanoor Village of Amrabad Mandal) Water levels during month of OCTOBER-2020 when compared with Decadal average of OCTOBER (2010-2019) levels, it is observed that, out of 31 Piezometers, rise in the range of 3.23 to 23.58 m is observed in all 31(100%) Piezometers. The rise (compared to decadal Average of OCTOBER (2010-2019)) > 2 m in 31 Piezometers observed in all Mandals. During OCTOBER-2020 as compared to OCTOBER-2019 there is an increase in area of Shallow water level (<5m) by~2289 km2 (~36%). Estimated dynamic change in groundwater storage during the season (up to October 2020) is at 32 TMC in comparison with May-20 water levels. During the month (October-2020) there is a net increase of ~ 8 TMC in groundwater.
