ECDG j{xÜxtá, on behalf of the citizens of the City of Cleveland, I am honored to offer this Proclamation designating August 23, 2014 as Cleveland Gladiators Day in Cleveland; and, j{xÜxtá, on August 23, 2014, the Cleveland Gladiators will take on the Arizona Rattlers at Quicken Loans Arena in pursuit of their quest to become Arena Football League (AFL) champions and victors of ArenaBowl XXVII; and, j{xÜxtá, led by Head Coach, Steve Thonn, the Cleveland Gladiators finished the 2014 regular season with a 17-1 record, setting a new AFL record for regular season victories. This record included six wins on the final play of the game and nine wins decided by one touchdown or less; and, j{xÜxtá, the Cleveland Gladiators’ defense finished the season allowing only 43.4 points scored per game - 3rd overall in the league; 273.3 yards per game - 7th overall in the league; and, 5.8 yards per play - 2nd overall in the league; and, j{xÜxtá, the Cleveland Gladiators’ offense finished the season scoring 55.1 points per game and averaged 290.7 total yards of offense per game. The offense was led by Quarterback, Shane Austin, who ranked in the Top 5 of Quarterbacks for the season with total offense of 4,016 yards, 100 total touchdowns, and a passing efficiency rate of 115.9; and, j{xÜxtá, the Cleveland Gladiators advanced to ArenaBowl XXVII by defeating the Philadelphia Soul by a score of 37-39 and the Orlando Predators by a score of 46-56. The City of Cleveland supports the Cleveland Gladiators and wishes them the best in ArenaBowl XXVII. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frank G. Jackson, the 56th Mayor of the City of Cleveland, do hereby offer this Proclamation designating Saturday, August 23, 2014, as Cleveland Gladiators Day. I invite all Clevelanders to take this opportunity to demonstrate their pride and support of the Cleveland Gladiators.
