A lot of people have done a lot to make this happen and the club is now a force to reckon with not only on the field of soccer but as a social and community service organisation. We played our league finals in August, then State of Origin Leg 2 match, Diwali Cup match, a Pool Competition, Inter-District Soccer Tournament in Sydney and then finally finishing the year with a Grand Presentation Night in December along with the completion of the 6 A-Side competition. The clubs success has been directly attributed to all the members and genuine commitments from the committee members. The player’s 3 | P a g e Vol. 1/2010, January Issue League Finals ––– by Praneel Singh Semi Final 1 – Belnorth v Gungahlin United FC (1 – 0) The first semi final saw the top two teams and the two rivals Belnorth and GUFC take on each other. Our boys played excellently but were not able to finish and a counter attack opportunity to Belnorth gave them the upper hand by scoring the winner. Semi Final 2 – Gundaroo v Gungahlin (0 – 6) This was a do or die match. The match was mostly one-sided with GUFC scoring 6 goals and thus winning it convincingly to again play Belnorth in the Grand Final. Final – Belnorth v Gungahlin (3 – 2) With Belnorth beating us in the first semi–final the boys were out to get some revenge. The game was competitively fought between the two teams. The boys again displayed excellent football skills and scored two quick goals within 30 minutes of the game but Belnorth managed to pull one back just before the half time break. The second half saw Gungahlin missing many opportunities whereas Belnorth made the most from their opportunities by scoring two goals. Belnorth coming out victorious by 3-2. On the sidelines, the spectators were also entertained by our ‘terukutu’ group with their beating of the dholak and songs.
