Port Macquarie Basketball Association Waratah Junior League Season 2017 Players / Parents Manual The Junior Representative Program (JRP) comprises all teams entered into the Waratah Junior League (WJL) by PMBA and ranges from Under 12’s to Under 18’s in the CPL, NJL, and EJL competitions for both men and women. The JRP is a high level program, but open to all participants who have the commitment, ability and desire to contribute. PMBA encourages participation by high level athletes and coaches who can improve the JRP. The foundation of the JRP is made up of the following four groups: • Players • Parents • Coaches • PMBA & BNSW Staff and Officials This document outlines the upcoming representative program, qualification options for the various Waratah Leagues, and our representative fees breakdown. Our behaviour expectations and guidelines for Players and Parents involved in the PMBA Junior Representative Program are also covered in the following pages of this document. Program Objectives The Port Macquarie Basketball Association aims to create an environment in which all players and coaches at all levels in the Representative Program can reach their true potential by: • Providing quality programs in order to develop and improve the skills of all players and coaches; • Providing a mentor program for all coaches to ensure development and support throughout the season; • Developing an Association style of training and play to assist in the education of all players and coaches to ease the transition for players and coaches between the age groups; • Providing open and effective communication channels to assist in the management of all participants and their families; • Striving to compete in the top level of competition for all ages, with a development group to compete in the next division where appropriate; • Encouraging participation, a positive attitude and good sportsmanship. In 2017, the U12 Boys competition has been merged between the Eastern Junior League and Northern Junior League regions. Accordingly, our U12 Boys will be following a slightly different schedule to our other junior representative teams, as outlined below: Waratah EJL / NJL Season - Division 1 Schedule (for our U12 Boys’ team) • Round 1 – Tamworth 11th & 12th March • Round 2 – Newcastle or Maitland 1st & 2nd April • Round 3 – Port Macquarie 13th & 14th May • Round 4 – Newcastle or Maitland June 17th & 18th In 2017 we will be nominating our U16 Women, our U16 Men and U18 Men for the Waratah Country Premier League (CPL) competition. The CPL Schedule for 2017 is outlined below: Waratah CPL Season Schedule (for our U16 Women, U16-1 Men & U18-1 Men’s teams) • 11th/12th February – Qualifying Tournament – Gosford/Terrigal • Round 1 – March 25/26 – Venue: Beaton Park & Berkeley (Illawarra) • Round 2 – April 29/30 – Venue: Bathurst & Coffs Harbour • Round 3 – May 27/28 – Venue: Gosford & Niagara Park • Round 4 – June 24/25 – Venue: Minto • Round 5 – July 29/30 – Venue: Maitland & Newcastle • Finals – August 19/20 – Venue: Minto Should any of those teams not be successful at the qualification tournament, those teams will be playing in the Northern Junior League (NJL) Division 1 competition. Our other junior representative teams, including our U14 boys & girls, and our U16-2 & U18-2 Men’s teams will be following the NJL schedule for Divisions 1 or 2 as outlined below: Waratah NJL Season Division 1 Schedule • Round 1 – March 11/12 – Venue: Tamworth • Round 2 – April 1/2 – Venue: Port Macquarie • Round 3 – May 13/14 – Venue: Port Macquarie • Round 4 – July 15/16 – Venue: Coffs Harbour • Finals – August 6/7 – Venue: Port Macquarie Waratah NJL Season Division 2 Schedule • Round 1 – March 18/19 – Venue: Tamworth • Round 2 – April 8/9 – Venue: Lismore • Round 3 – May 20/21 – Venue: Coffs Harbour • Round 4 – July 22/23 – Venue: Coffs Harbour • Grand Finals – August 6/7 – Venue Port Macquarie Should our teams be successful in achieving a Grand Final victory, or be granted a wildcard entry from their respective CPL or NJL Division 1 leagues, those teams will be eligible to compete in the State Cup or State Championship finals as per the following schedule: Waratah League Finals State Cup (for successful Division 1 NJL teams) • August 26/27 - Venue: Country location TBA - U12 Format also to be advised shortly. State Championships (for successful CPL teams) • September 1/3 - Venue: Metro location TBA For all information concerning the Waratah Junior League please visit: http://www.nswbasketball.net.au/ Additional Representative Team Tournament Play In addition to the scheduled weekends of the Waratah League, PMBA may choose to nominate or be eligible to compete at additional tournament/s during the course of the year. These events are not included in the costings of the PMBA 2017 Junior Representative season. These tournaments may include: • Coffs Harbour / Tamworth / Central Coast pre-season Carnivals - Dec through to Feb • Country Junior Championship Tournament - June long weekend (see below for further details) • Port Macquarie Seaside Classic - November These carnivals attract teams from all NSW junior leagues and provide teams with the opportunity to compete against a diverse range of opponents during the pre- & mid- season. Country Junior Championship Tournament – June long weekend This tournament, commonly referred to as “Country” is held at a number of different venues for each of the various age groups. Held over the Queen’s Birthday (June) long weekend, this event is regarded as the premier Country Junior Tournament in NSW, attracting teams from all over the State. Teams may be entered into Divisions 1, 2 or 3, based on the relative strength of the respective Dolphins team. 2017 Country dates are the 10th–12th June (Venues are yet to be announced). PMBA Rep End-of-Season Presentation Full details regarding the Port Dolphins end of season presentation event will be posted at a later point during the season. 2017 PMBA JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE FEE PAYMENTS The following outlines the representative fees applicable to all team members and shadow players for the 2017 Junior Representative season. Player Fees for the Junior League Season Fees for the season covering the direct costs incurred in running the JRP are $561 per player and include: • PMBA induction camp on 4th/5th February • BNSW/NJL/CPL nomination fees, development levies & game/referee/supervision fees • PMBA court hire fees for all trials & training sessions after the formal team’s announcement • Use of Team uniforms (including new kit warm-up shirts) • Team kits/training equipment • Presentation night & team photo These costs do not include Country Championship or State Champs/Cup/Shield – these will be costed separately if your team participates. Payment terms, to be done online via ‘PMBA Jnr Rep Payment’ link: • $187 due by Friday 3/2/17, the day prior to the induction camp. • 2 x $187 (2nd & 3rd instalments totalling $374) due by Saturday 4/3/17. If parents wish to pay one or more of these prior to the date, that is fine. Shadow Player Fees for the Junior League Season Fees for the season covering the direct costs incurred in running the JRP are $187 per shadow player and include: • PMBA induction camp on 4th/5th February. • PMBA court hire fees for all trials & training sessions after the formal team’s announcement. • Presentation night & team photo Payment terms to be done online via ‘PMBA Jnr Rep Payment’ link: • $187 deposit before the induction camp by Friday 3rd Feb. As well: • If a Shadow Player fills in and plays in a game or round, there is no additional cost. • If a Shadow Player permanently replaces a team member who will not be returning to the team, a fee of $93.50 per remaining round is payable (i.e. will amount to a maximum of $561) & reimbursed to that team member where a permanent replacement occurs. The Dolphins reversible training singlet is compulsory for all representative & shadow players and will be available via Nicole McMahon at a cost of $50. The only cold-weather outerwear which may be worn for team warm-ups is the official Dolphins Hoodie, which is also available at a cost of $65. This additional Representative Gear, including the mandatory reversible training singlet, and player hoodies can be ordered after the Induction Camp. Non Payment: A ‘No Pay – No Play’ policy applies. • If full payment is not received prior to the first Round 1 of that team’s competition, the player will be deemed ‘non-financial’ and may be suspended from representative games. • The commitment by a player is for the ENTIRE season irrespective of later motivation. A player will be liable to pay full fees for the entire season except in the case of serious injury/illness or substantial residential move. In such cases, the player must request in writing to be permanently removed from the team and if they are permanently replaced by a new team member their fees may be partially refunded. • In the event that a player does not make full payment by Round 1 and is subsequently removed from the team, any partial payment made will not be refunded.
