Óli Gunnar Jötunheimar Enska Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters book review The Sea of Monsters is a fantasy adventure novel based on Greek mythology and is written by Rick Riordan. It is the second novel in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series and was well received selling more than one million copies total. The title of the book suggests that the story will take place at sea where monsters live. The story is set in present day America and is about the 13 year old demigod Percy Jackson and his friends Annabeth and Tyson. They must go on a quest to rescue their friend Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Cyclops Polyphemus to save camp half-blood from being destroyed by monsters and titans. On their quest many people and monsters will try to stop them from succeeding by any means necessary. The main characters are Percy who is the brave hero of the story and the son Poseidon, Tyson a Cyclops who is often made fun of and treated differently and Annabeth the smartest of them three and the daughter of Athena. The author describes the characters really well so you get a pretty good image of how they look like. The characters get well developed and you start to care for them and see the world from their perspective throughout the book. The book touches upon how hard it is to be a half-blood, always being hunted down by monsters and never knowing one of your parent’s. The message of the book is that you should not judge others based on looks. One scene that caught my attention was when Percy is turned into a guinea pig. My favorite character in the book is Tyson because he is so funny. I think the book is grate and I really recommend it for reading to everyone who likes fantasy and adventure, but you need to have read the book that came before it (The Lightning Thief). Otherwise you would not understand anything that is going on in the book. .
