The LSI Seminar Series

The LSI Seminar Series Wed 9th May 2018 15:30 in Geoffrey Pope 328 Professor Juliet Osborne ESI Director (University of Exeter, Penryn campus) Pollination in a Changing Environment – and an insight into the ESI Juliet will describe her group’s latest research on pollinators and crop pollination. As Director of the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI), she will also share some of the exciting work that is going on in the ESI, finding solutions to environmental change. Professor Juliet Osborne is the Director of the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) and Chair in Applied Ecology. She is also a member of the Biosciences department in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences. The ESI is a world class interdisciplinary research centre focussed on finding insights and solutions, at a global scale, to the problems of environmental and societal change. Juliet’s expertise is in pollination ecology; agro- ecology, insect movement ecology and insect-mediated ecosystem services in farmlands e.g. pollination and pest management. Her research aims to investigate how land and farm management affects insect populations and diversity, and explore how those insects can benefit landowners via the provision of ecosystem services. To achieve this, she works closely with beekeepers, farmers and conservation organisations. The LSI is the scientific home for an integrated team of researchers with complementary expertise, creating a dynamic and inspiring hub for disease-related research. This seminar series embodies our commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary research and clear communication. The speakers research in fields ranging from mathematics to evolution, from biophysics to clinical medicine, while addressing all researchers with their equally broad backgrounds. Our goal is to dissolve boundaries and spark engaging conversation in an informal setting. Seminars are held on Wednesdays in the LSI Seminar Rooms Geoffrey Pope 328 this month. Discussion continues over drinks in The Weston Exchange Hub. All are welcome..
