Dom Dwyer turns PRO at Sporting Kansas City. Dom’s dream when moving to a college in America was to turn professional and play in the MLS. He has taken a giant step towards achieving this. After a great first season with the University of South Florida Dom was selected to attend the MLS player combine, where over 40 top college soccer prospects get to showcase themselves in front of MLS coaches. The name Dom Dwyer had already reached far and wide around the US as a young player who was not only a power house but a prolific goal scorer, some had named him the ‘British Bulldog’. More good news arrived before the televised MLS Super Draft in Florida as generation adidas signed him as one of their players, this put Dom in a great position to be picked in the first round draw. On Thursday 12th January 2012 at the MLS Super Draft in Kansas City Dom was selected on the 16th pick by Sporting Kansas City, current champions of the Western Division. Dom’s comments live on ESPN2 was “I’m very excited, especially to have the home crowd here in attendance today.” & “It’s great to be able to meet the club’s supporters and I’m very happy to have this opportunity to play in Major League Soccer.” Dom has since moved to Kansas City and participated in a very intense pre season program which has included a residential in Arizona and a number of fixtures. Dom has had plenty of opportunities to show what he is capable of which included an assist in a 2-1 victory over DC United and a hat trick in a 5-1 victory against PDL side FC Tucson. In Dom’s home debut he played an instrumental attacking role in Sporting Kansas City’s win over Rockhurst in an expedition match, which included him scoring in the 2-0 win. Dom missed out on a place in the squad for the opening home MLS fixture against New England Revolution, a game which Sporting Kansas City won comfortably 3-0. During midweek Dom played 90mins for Kansas City Reserves against Real Salt Lake earning his team a point with another well taken goal in the 88th minute.
