Our national bird is the Eagle, but it was going to be the turkey. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson were designing a seal for our country and didn’t know what to put on it. Ben thought there should be a moose on it. Then he thought of putting a turkey on it, but then realized that they ate turkey every Thanksgiving. Finally they decided on the Eagle to be our national bird! Did you know that ancient people wore halloween costumes because they thought it would scare away ghosts? Halloween has been around for a long time, but it used to be a dark and creepy day. It used to be a day of death. The ancient people claimed that the day before Halloween, the boundary (connection) between the living and the dead was weak. This meant that ghosts could pass through, so they would dress up to scare them away. Nowadays, we have turned this holiday into a fun and happy holiday. Did you know that there are only two days throughout the year that you can balance an egg on its larger end? Normally you can’t balance an egg on the larger part of it, but on the first day of fall and spring you can. You can only balance it these two times because the Earth's alignment with the sun is perfect. This is called the Vernal Equinox; this happens only twice a year. You should try it sometime!
