Joe Bellino Wayne County (part) won the 17th House District seat for a second term with Flat Rock city 54.6 percent of the vote. Mr. Bellino beat the Monroe City Rockwood city Clerk/Treasure Michelle LaVoy of Monroe, who received Sumpter township 45.4 pe rcent of the vote. Democrats invested heavily here, but it appeared to make no difference. MIRS Analysis (November 6, 20-18): Monroe Clerk- Treasurer Michelle LaVOY turned the contest for this Downriver district into a real race against incumbent Rep. Joseph BELLINO (R-Monroe). For one, unions weren't convinced he's on their side by his no vote on the prevailing wage repeal. And other Democrats have done well in this blue-collar district that leans only slight to the R side. Belllino held his own, 56 to 44 percent. 19 th Wayne Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) First Wayne County (part) Member, Health Policy Committee Livonia city (part) GOP Base = 55.53% Biologist, member of Livonia Democratic Club, and volunteer at St. Angela Hospice Gongwer Analysis (November 6, 2018): This Livonia race saw ballots being counted until almost 5 a.m. and Laurie Pohutsky of Livonia pulled it off with 23,457 votes, just 221 votes more than Livonia City Councilmember Brian Meakin. That flips the seat now held by Rep. Laura Cox (R-Livonia). MIRS Analysis (November 6, 2018): While votes were still being counted at 5 a.m. it appears that Democrat Laurie POHUTSKY won by 92 votes, despite the fact she was accused by the GOP of wanting to pay reparations for manifest destiny and aiming to end free enterprise. The attack video gambit didn't work. Pohutsky appeared to be squeaking by with the district, now held by Rep. Laura [COX] (R -Livonia). 20 th Wayne Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth Township) First Wayne County (part) Assistant Minority Leader Canton Township Member, Health Policy Committee Northville city Northville Township GOP Base = 53.28% Plymouth city Plymouth Township English and Social Studies public school teacher Gongwer Analysis (November 6, 2018): Democrat Matt Koleszar of Plymouth beat incumbent Rep. Jeff Noble (R- Northville) 52.7 percent to 47.3 percent. This result was expected. MIRS Analysis (November 6, 2018): Democrat Matt KOLESZAR won this Plymouth district, dumping out incumbent Rep. Jeff NOBLE (R-Plymouth) in a district that trends Republican. Nonetheless, Koleszar's background as a public-school teacher gave him a position from which to make an issue of the GOP's coziness with Betsy DeVOS. And the best the Republicans could come up with against him was a claim he wanted to end free enterprise. At 5 a.m., and with 19 precincts in Wayne County still outstanding, Koleszar was winning 53 percent to 47 percent. 21 st Wayne Kristy Pagan (D-Canton) Third Wayne County (part) Belleville city (part) Democratic Base = 56.07% Canton Township (part) Van Buren Township (part) During 2017-2018 session, she voted against Mayor Duggan’s “Driver’s Choice” auto no-fault plan, Small business owne r 23 rd Wayne Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) Second Wayne
