Along with 3 million Incheon citizens, let me express my warmest welcome to the delegates from many different countries to Incheon Metropolitan City. Leaders around the world have directed their efforts toward resolving problems facing cities by building smart cities for sustainable development. In particular, taking advantage of its strengths in construction and ICT technologies, Incheon City has taken the lead in pursuing smart city business. The smart city business of Incheon has drawn growing attention from nations around the world. This interest, I believe, has led to our hosting of the ‘Smart Cities Conference.’ Over the previous century, Incheon has been a driver behind the nation’s unprecedented remarkable growth, which has built ports, railways and expressways, bringing the heyday of modern culture to Korea. In this age, Incheon is transforming into a world premier city where transportation infrastructure, such as the Incheon International Airport and Incheon Port, offer state-of-the art services. Furthermore, its world class MICE, sports and culture facilities have escalated its growth. Most importantly, as the largest free economic zone in Korea the Incheon Free Economic Zone, encompassing the Songdo, Yeongjong and Cheongna districts, which was built over reclaimed land, is pioneering the prosperity of Korea. I am certain that during your stay, all delegates will have a good opportunity to learn more about Incheon and its smart city business, which will contribute greatly to successful progress of the smart city projects pursued by each city. Incheon will spare no effort and support for the resonant conclusion of the Conference, and I hope all the participants make unforgettable memories in Incheon. With best wishes Yoo Jeong-Bok Mayor INCHEON METROPOLITAN CITY large scale events PAGE 2 THE PROGRAMME - DAY ONE monday 24th October 2016 0830 Registration and Morning Coffee 0900 Opening and Welcome Remarks from the Chairperson Dirk Van Brederode Programme Manager, Smart City, The Hague 0910 KEYNOTE MAYORAL ADDRESS Hon.
