PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS It has been my privilege to act as the Association's President in its 50th Anniversary Year. The special dinner held at the Festival Theatre Banquet Room in February 1983 was an unqualified success. Without exception our guests for the evening subsequently conveyed to me their appreciation and admiration for the completeness of the arrange- ments. The evening did much for cementing the goodwill we work hard to maintain with people with whom our Association interacts. In May 1983, we conducted our most successful presentation night in the history of the Adelaide Turf Cricket Assoc- iation. It was pleasing for us to have been able to enjoy the company of our ladies amongst the 600 people who attended. I must express my disappointment at the non representation from some clubs, especially those which had won premierships and individual trophies. My belief is that all affiliated clubs have a responsibility to support the Association which is the medium through which so many people are able to enjoy their cricket. I did write to each club involved and trust that we may look forward to their attendance when next we are all able to meet under similar circumstances. Our golden year was given a mid season boost by our combined eleven thoroughly trouncing our friends from the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association. With four wins out of five seasons I am aware of the efforts of our oppon- ents to reverse the trend. Happily no complacency is evident in our camp with regard to future fixtures. We still continue to do our best to create a close and effective relationship with the South Australian Cricket Assoc- iation. During the course of the season a representative group from Adelaide Turf met with a party of the S.A.C.A. representatives. The talks were amiable and general agreement was reached that we can do more for cricket by liaising more closely in respect of a number of matters. Our Executive Committee is gradually developing a structure which will enable it to more adequately cope with running a large Association. Recently, new members have joined the Executive who have a background of experience which will prove to be invaluable. During the course of the year we were sorry to lose the services of Dean Shakes, our Chairman, as a result of him being promoted in his employment. On behalf of all members I formally record our gratitude for his untiring efforts. To Gil Kolenberg, his successor, I know you will all join me in wishing him the strength, patience and courage to discharge his duties in an effective manner. In this regard the support he will require from our tireless Executive Officer, Reg Duffy, is of paramount importance. May I ask of you all in the 1983/84 season to work towards establishing excellent relationships with other players and adopting a fair and reasonable attitude to our good friends in the Umpires Association. JOHN A. RAWES President ADELAIDE TURF CRICKET ASSOCIATION INC. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT It is with much pleasure that I present my first report in the 50th Year of the Association. This season, unfortunately, has been an unsettling one from the administration point of view and it was with regret that the appointed Chairman, Mr. D. Shakes, had to resign because of a transfer in his employment. Four other executive members resigned during the year and this meant that at most meetings full representation was not achiev- ed, and hence, the burden of work was borne by too few members. This Association is large, and if it is to be run efficiently then we require able and willing personnel to become executive members. A Sub -Committee was formed two years ago to look into the Administration of the Association and the appointment of an executive officer was the first step to improving the situation, however, much is still required to efficiently conduct the business of the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association. My thanks to all members of the Executive for their support and hard work, especially Mr. G. Goulter, who spent a tremendous number of hours and much effort and I am sure the Association will reap the benefits in seasons to come. The 1982/83 season was again one of high standard and was highlighted by completing a hat -trick of wins over the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association. The players, and all concerned in regard to the inter -association game agreed that the facilities and wicket provided by the Brighton Cricket Club were first class. My congratulations to Walkerville Cricket Club on winning the Al Premiership and to all other successful clubs. To all trophy winners throughout the many grades my best wishes for your fine performance. All these presentations were made at a most successful dinner which was conducted in conjunction with the Umpires' Association. In conclusion, I wish all affiliated clubs, their officials and registered players Good Luck and Good Cricket during the 1983/84 season. G.L. KOLENBERG Chairman FINANCE REPORT The financial result for the year was a surplus of $5,686 which was $4,500 above budget and thus must be considered a most satisfactory result. Unfortunately the surplus resulted from a marked increase in fines incurred by affiliated clubs. This area is causing the Executive Committee great concern because while it helps the finances it does impose additional administrative burdens which reduce the effective time available for more important aspects of the Asso- ciations' business. It is pleasing to note that the Association has been able to contain costs and these were in line with the budget. An amount of $2,050 has been transferred to "Provision for Touring Expenses" which now stands at $6,000. This transfer has been made so that the costs can be more evenly spread between "at home" and "away" matches against the Victorian Sub -District Association. The costs incurred for the 50th Year Celebrations did not exceed the amount provided for in the 1982/83 season and hence the balance of $300 was transferred back to accumulated funds. G.
