TH ROYAL COLLEGE APPROVED BY ROYAL COLLEGE OF PSYCHIATRISTS – 18 JUNE 2020 (VALID FOR 2 YEARS) APPROVAL: JOB TITLE: Consultant Psychiatrist - Home Treatment Crisis Response Service DEPARTMENT: Mental Health & Disability BASE/LOCATION: All posts are appointed to the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. The base for this post will be Armagh Community Hospital however the post holder may be required to work on any site within the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. REPORTS TO: Dr P McMahon – Associate Medical Director for Mental Health & Disability ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Mental Health & Disability Services SUMMARY OF POST: This replacement post will participate in a 1:20 on-call rota. Current pay supplement is 3%. This is a permanent post. This post will attract a salary of £82,500 - £111,230 per annum. This is a full-time position, however anyone interested in working part-time / job share is also welcome to apply. This post will work alongside a team of dedicated multi-disciplinary staff and a close knit team of Consultant Psychiatrists. Annual leave will be 32 days per annum initially rising to 34 days after 7 years’ seniority, plus 10 statutory and public holidays. The post also has an attractive study leave entitlement of up to 30 days paid leave with expenses in any period of three years. A relocation package may also be available if appropriate. The Southern Trust has established a dedicated revalidation support team which ensures all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports all doctors through the revalidation process. The Trust has also appointed corporate, Consultant and SAS Leads for appraisal and revalidation. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. The management team is supported by an Associate Medical Director and two Clinical Directors. The Mental Health Division of the Directorate underwent major service reconfiguration over 10 years ago merging four legacy trusts. All acute in-patient services have been amalgamated onto the Bluestone site including PICU, functional old age admissions, general adult admissions and the Intellectual disability assessment unit. Teams are aligned with General Practitioner practices providing a sector-based service with Support and Recovery consultants having responsibility for all inpatients and outpatients in that sector, with the support of the inpatient and Community Mental Health Teams. Some of the other consultant post are more Primary Care facing. The sector-based approach also applies in Psychiatry of Old Age, but 1 of the four post sits outside that and provides all the consultant input to patients admitted to the functionally mentally ill elderly ward at the Psychiatric Unit, Bluestone. The Consultant posts in the Directorate at present are as follows: Primary Mental Health Care - facing – approx. 2.5 WTE Support and Recovery / Inpatient Care – approx. 7.8 WTE Liaison Psychiatry – 2.0 WTE Home Treatment – 2.0 WTE (this advertisement is to replace one post vacated through retirement and add an additional post to enhance medical input to 3.0 WTE) Rehabilitation and PICU – 1.0 WTE Addictions – 1.0 WTE Eating Disorders and Psychotherapy – 1.0 WTE Psychiatry of Old Age – 4.0 WTE Forensic Psychiatry – 1.0 WTE (includes 0.5 WTE in Shannon Clinic, Belfast Trust) Learning Disability – 5.0 WTE MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES Bluestone Unit – a 74 bedded unit for acute inpatient care on the Craigavon Hospital site. The new build on the site also houses PICU (Rosebrook) and the Learning Disability Treatment and Assessment Unit (Dorsy). St Luke’s Hospital – still retains beds for the dementia services for the Trust and provides the base for the Forensic Team and the Addictions Service. The Primary Mental Health Care Team and the Home Treatment Team are based at Armagh Community Hospital, Trasna House and Daisy Hill Hospital. Mental Health Resource Centres operate in Craigavon, Dungannon and Newry. Community Team bases in Armagh, Dungannon, Lurgan and Newry. ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES There are currently three arms to the service; Primary Mental Health Care, Acute Mental Health Care and Support and Recovery, they work across three geographical areas, Craigavon and Banbridge, Newry and Mourne and Armagh and Dungannon. Allied to this are teams for Eating Disorders, Addictions, Forensic Psychiatry and Liaison Psychiatry. PRIMARY MENTAL HEALTH CARE This service is based on the principles of the stepped care model, providing specialist mental health input to tier two/ three. THE ADDICTION SERVICE The Addiction Service is a Trust wide service which is based in St Luke’s Hospital site and provides community based clinics in 9 different locations across the Trust. It also provides enhanced community support and liaises with the inpatient facilities based in Downpatrick and Enniskillen, for this catchment area, to facilitate stepdown and step up of patients. INPATIENT SERVICE The Bluestone Unit is a purpose-built unit on the Craigavon Area Hospital site. It is located adjacent to the PICU. There are 3 Acute General Adult wards each with 18 beds. We have 2/3 consultants feeding into each ward, with cross cover provided each day so that clinical decision making occurs daily. Willows ward has 20 beds and provides acute admission beds for functional psychiatry of old age patients.
