Matthew Grose is Managing Director today, the fifth generation of a dynasty which is the longest running hotelier family in the UK, and often wonders what his Great, Great Grandmother would make of Thurlestone Hotel today with luxury rooms and leisure facilities compared to straw mattresses, oil lamps and candles. Margaret Amelia recognised the need for accommodation for people pursuing a new leisure pursuit, ‘golf’, and since then, every generation of the Grose family has always endeavored to move with the times to match the competition over the decades. The original Farmhouse, where it all began, is now the Village Inn, still owned by the Grose family and part of the Thurlestone Hotel. Here’s to another 120 years… For full details and current offers, visit www.prideofbritainhotels.com/hotels/thurlestone-hotel To book FREEPHONE: 0800 089 3929 or visit: www.prideofbritainhotels.com 03 The South West The Nare Veryan, Truro, Cornwall The Nare cruise & stay Guests staying at The Nare this summer can delight in a day on the water aboard Alice Rose, the hotel’s 38’ classic gentleman’s motor launch. Board Alice Rose at Smugglers’ Cottage, Tolverne, where General Eisenhower briefed his American troops before their D-Day landings, and sail down the sheltered and beautiful Fal River. Passing the charming 13th century church at St Just, where legend has it Joseph of Arimathea once brought Jesus ashore, the cruise continues towards the Helford River, where guests can relax with a picnic lunch whilst at anchor in a quiet cove surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Scheduled day sailings, including lunch for up to eight guests, are available regularly throughout the season. Private charters are also possible by prior appointment.
