Klaus Bartl Glattbach [email protected] Ein Sammlerthema: Trilobiten aus dem Ordovizium des Großraumes von St.Petersburg/Russland erfreuen sich bei Sammlern großer Beliebtheit. Doch die Informationslage ist schwierig wegen der Sprachproblematik und der begrenzten Verfügbarkeit zuverlässiger Arbeiten. Anhand der wissenschaftlichen Publikationen von Ivantsov und weiteren Autoren wird ein Kurzüberblick über das zeitliche Vorkommen und die Gestalt der (vorrangig asaphiden) Trilobiten und einiger Aspekte des historischen Werdeganges ihrer wissenschaftlichen Erforschung gegeben. Remarks about Ordovician Trilobites of the Baltic Glint following Ivantsov et al. The trilobites of the St. Petersburg area (Russia) are highly appreciated by collectors. But precise data on these fossils are hardly accessible, due to problems of languages and the rarity of published scientific works dealing with them. Using the studies of Ivantsov and later authors, I will present a review of the stratigraphy of these (mainly asaphid) trilobites and discuss the history of investigations on them. With more than four hundreds of specimens, all of exceptional quality, this museum represents an ideal environment for promoting these fascinating fossil arthropods to the public. The Museum is especially committed to its educational function; providing detailed scientific descriptions of specimens on display and publishing books, thematic posters, and digital animations. More recently, an effort has been made towards giving access to this exceptional collection to scientists. Permanently evolving, the Back to the Past Museum represents a good example of how a hobby like collecting trilobites can turn to more ambitious objectives: promoting these amazing fossils to a large public and supporting the scientific research on them. In this contribution, the origins and the structure of the museum, the nature of its collections, and its future projects will be presented, with particular emphasis on the scientific contributions we can make. Mit mehr als vierhundert Exemplaren, alle von herausragender Qualität, bietet es ein ideales Umfeld um die faszinierenden fossilen Arthropoden der Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren. Mit besonderem Engagement verfolgt das Museum seine Aufgabe als Bildungsinstitution; es präsentiert detaillierte wissenschaftliche Beschreibungen der ausgestellten Trilobiten und veröffentlicht Bücher, 5 themenbezogene Poster, und digitale Animationen. Seit kurzem gibt es Anstrengungen, die außergewöhnliche Sammlung der Wissenschaft zugänglich zu machen. Unter beständiger Weiterentwicklung repräsentiert das „Back to the Past Museum“ ein gutes Beispiel dafür, wie sich ursprünglich hobbymäßiges Trilobitensammeln wandelt und sich ehrgeizigen Zielen stellt: diese erstaunlichen Fossilien einem breiten Publikum zu zeigen, und die wissenschaftliche Erforschung an ihnen zu unterstützen.
