Walk will start once the cars from Glasgow have arrived. (NN971051) A nice walk around (and up) Ben Shee in Glen Devon, a 516m hill in the Ochils. Mostly walking on good tracks, with some lovely views. This is a 100 mile round trip, suggested passenger contribution £10. Walkers can catch the 9:32 am Helensburgh train from Glasgow Queen Street and meet the leader on the train or on arrival at Dumbarton Central at 10:01am. (G11 6RY, NS556665) Starts at 10:05: Walk starts at Dumbarton Central Railway Station at 10.05 am (NS397756) Finishing point: G82 1JN, NS405750 This is a walk of approximately 3 hours starting at Dumbarton Central. We will be walking on pavements, riverside and parkland paths. The walk passes many fine buildings linked to the town's industrial and historical past. In sharp contrast, the walk goes through the peaceful Levengrove Park finishing with a visit to the craggy iconic Rock with its strategically placed Castle. The views from the White Tower Crag are stunning. The admission price is £5, £4 (concession) or free to Historic Scotland members. There are 547 steps throughout the castle but we will go slowly. (G2 8HA, NS587651) Starts at 09:45: Milngavie Station (G62 8BS, NS555744) Finishing point: Drymen (G63 0BJ, NS474885) A 12 mile walk along the first part of the West Highland Way, walking along the valleys of the Blane and Endrick with views of the Campsie Fells. Catching 9.09 train from Glasgow Central to Milngavie and returning from Drymen to Balloch by bus then train back to Glasgow. Please contact leader by email. (G1 2AG, NS592655) Starts at 09:20: Garelochhead Railway Station (G84 0DB, NS242910) Finishing point: Helensburgh Central Railway Station (G84 7QF, NS296823) A 12km walk via part of the 3 Lochs Way. A significant part of the walk is over rough and boggy moorland with no paths. There is 360 metres of ascent. (please note the early start time) Meet at the meeting point having purchased a return ticket to Garelochhead. We will catch the 08.23 train. Walk is on OS Explorer OL38 (Loch Lomond South). (G2 3NW, NS591658) Starts: PA4 8QP, NS508675 From Renfrew High Street, we will pass the 1877 Town Hall and head down to the slipway for the Renfrew Ferry, where there is still a passenger service across the River Clyde to Yoker. After a short distance, we will follow a woodland path which will take us back to the riverside, which we will follow to a navigation beacon officially called the Blythswood Light, but nicknamed Wee Blinky. Soon we will reach the confluence of the River Cart with the River Clyde. The River Cart is formed only ¾ mile upstream, by the confluence of the White and Black Cart Waters. We will walk alongside the River Cart and then the White Cart Water, reaching some ancient stones associated with 7th century St. Conval and the 17th century Earl of Argyll, before crossing Inchinnan Road beside the Bascule Bridge. Our route will continue beside the White Cart Water, before heading away and through Kirklandneuk and Robertson Parks, back to the Town Centre. Train leaves Central Station at 7.45am. (G2 8HA, NS587651) Starts at 09:45: PA20 9AS, NS087645 Finishing point: PA22 3AP, NS027742 Starting from Rothesay this walk takes us into the low hills behind the town, along the Tramway Walk towards Ettrick Bay, turing off into Glen Moree where the Way follows farm roads and forest tracks. We finish the walk at Rhubodach where there may be time to take trip on the 5 minute ferry to Colintraive (and back) before catching the 16.35 bus back to Rothesay. (G1 3SL, NS588653) Starts: G41 2BG, NS577625 We will enter the park at Balvicar Street, walking between the boating pond and the duck pond. After passing Camphill House, built in 1798 by Robert Thomson, cotton manufacturer, used as a museum from the 1890s until the 1980s, now flats, we will explore the Scottish Poetry Rose Garden. Opposite the glasshouse (unfortunately closed in the evenings), we can view the Langside Monument, commemorating the Battle of Langside in 1568, which was Mary, Queen of Scots’ last attempt to regain the throne. Our route will then take us across the hillside, over the site of an Iron Age camp, to the flagpole at the summit, from where (weather permitting) there will be spectacular views. We will then head down the formal steps at the grand avenue, before leaving the park at Victoria Road. We will catch to 08.15 train to Edinburgh and change there. Cars can be parked in the large car park (FK8 3UU, NN521009) Around Aberfoyle @ 8miles: All on good paths and tracks. Starting and ending at the Tourist Information in Aberfoyle. The walk goes up to the David Marshall Lodge, passing the Highland Fault Line and then up to the viewpoint offering a panoramic view of Aberfoyle below, the Campsies, the Fintry Hills and the Trossachs. NB: this can be omitted if anyone doesn’t feel up to it. On returning to Aberfoyle, we’ll take in Doon Hill. Email contact preferred. Starting from Hyndland station, the walk will discover some of the many features of interest of this part of the city.
