Ignacio Liaw Sok Ying Rabiah Binte Mohamed Dawood Tan Khoon Kiat Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies National University of Singapore In this workshop, we will share our experience on the development and use of a simulation-based assessment tool (SAT),which was constructed to assess student nurses’ clinical performances across six core competencies (critical thinking; effective communication; technical competence; management of care; professional and ethical practice; safe practice). The ses- sion will also cover development of scenario which will serve as an authentic platform to build realistic learning environment. An innovative simulation-based learning and assessment project using Simulated Patient (SP) was recently implemented in the year 1 nursing module. The committee will share this experience and the outcomes of the project. Presenting Faculty Dr Tan Eng Kien Consultant, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, National University Hospital NUHS OBGYN Residency Programme Director Workshop explores the different modalities of teaching obstetric emergencies with simulation. The aim is to emphasize to participants that effective obstetric drills teaching can be delivered with low fidelity equipment, and do not always require complicated high fidelity equipment. Workshop will benefit all doctors, nurses, and midwives involved in undergraduate and postgraduate obstetric teaching. Duration: 830am—1230pm No. of participants: 20 Fees: SGD 160.50 inclusive of 7% GST Venue: Centre for Healthcare Simulation Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine National University of Singapore 14 Medical Drive, MD6, Level 3 Singapore 117599 Room 03/05 & HDU 3 SUNWS-4 : Early Patient Trigger Protocol Nursing Clinical Simulation Presenting Faculties Ye Huizhen Tan Hwee Yuen Clinical Educator, Nurse Educator Senior Staff Nurse Nursing Education Department Nursing Education Department National University Hospital National University Hospital Jackie Soon Sze Ling Nursing Education Department Nursing Education Department National University Hospital National University Hospital Nursing simulation has been a part of nursing practice and education where nurses hone their skills in nursing assessment and provide early interventions necessary for managing “patients” with acute deteriorating conditions in the ward context within a safe simulated learning environment. This workshop will complete the clinical simulation learning experiences where participants will have the opportunity to dab- ble with six clinical case scenarios. The focus will be on both the technical and communication skills. Participants will be re- quired to perform appropriate patient assessment and decision making for immediate interventions. Working as an inter- disciplinary team, nurses shall engage one another in the escalation process and the management of clinical acute cases. All cases will end with a debriefing session where participants will engage in lively sharing sessions to exchange rich and valua- ble learning pointers from the simulated case scenarios. Duration: 9am—5pm No of seats available: 20 Fees: SGD 107 inclusive of 7% GST. Effective communication in onerous situations is a component that is not for- mally inducted in the workplace. One may have to experience avoidable adverse clinical situations in order to attain the skills of effective communication. This workshop aims to introduce the TeamSTEPPS communication tools that foster progressive team dynamics and efficacious teamwork that enhances patient safety and outcome.
