We know that stimulating the mind and strengthening the body have enormous benefits at any age and may even slow the process of memory loss. Besides being good for you, keeping your brain and the body active and engaged doesn’t just improve your life – it’s a whole lot of fun! I’m confident you’ll learn something new and make a few friends along the way. While you’re at it, why not suggest a class or even volunteer to teach a subject which you’re passionate about? Just give us a call to reserve a space in a class that intrigues you. Please keep in mind that class space is limited, priority is given to residents and most, but not all classes are free. Join Katherine as she shares the importance of meditation and the many ways it can benefit you. Memoirs, Journaling, and Sara Ries Mondays • 10:30am Key Largo Storytelling Memoirs, Journaling, and Storytelling by baby boomers+ is designed specifically for seniors and is for anyone who enjoys storytelling. These ongoing classes provide an opportunity for your residents to meet with their peers and one of our experienced teachers like myself, so they may experience the therapeutic benefits of writing as they record their stories in a meaningful way through poems, short stories, or simply journal entries. Our classes are designed to stimulate brain health through creativity, imagination, and accessing memories in a safe, nurturing, and supportive space. Participants will engage in writing exercises, readings, critique, and group discussions in a fun, impactful, community-building environment of creativity and purpose. In this beauty and youth-obsessed culture, many elderly people feel isolated, depressed, and disempowered and Keep St. Pete is working to change that. We’re dedicated to helping seniors rediscover the value of their voices as they learn writing techniques that will make their stories come alive for the reader or listener. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to share their writing with younger generations and see firsthand what a tremendous gift their stories are for our community. Keep St. Pete Lit believes in building bridges between humans instead of walls, and that our community will grow and strengthen as we learn about the history, experiences, and insights of our elder population.
