See www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/music throughout the year for updates 3 First Access Sometimes known as Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET) or Wider Opportunities We offer a choice of two programmes: Option 1 or Option 2 Option 1 Instruments Option 2 Available First Access 3 4 5 & 6 First Access with School Ensemble With this option, the year is in two halves: A one year programme in which a whole class learn to play an instrument, explore Strings September to February half term: their creativity and develop a strong Same as option 1, for one hour foundation of transferable skills. 3 4 5 & 6 Djembes Each weekly session is one hour long (45 minutes where schools request an February half term to July: afternoon session). A selected group of these pupils continue Clarinet learning the instrument in a 30 minute (usually year 5) lesson*. They are then joined for the remaining 30 minutes by any pupil in the school who plays a musical instrument, Keyboard to form a school ensemble. We will continue to provide instruments until July. * Guitar or Some or all of the cost of these lessons could be passed to the parents Ukulele Cornet or 3 4 5 & 6 Baritone Horn (usually year 5) We will provide: Whole Class Ensemble Tuition is part of the • a minimum of 34 teaching sessions during the Government’s programme to ensure every child academic year learns an instrument for at least a term. This programme allows children to consolidate and improve their skills for a further period of time. The cost of this programme can be passed onto parents by the school. 4 5 & 6 Please see order form for prices and lesson lengths. Curriculum Delivery OCMS is able to offer specialist curriculum music teaching delivered in schools by experienced teachers. This is designed to support the National Curriculum but can be tailored to suit schools’ specific needs. Visits must be a minimum of 1 hour in length (45 minutes if the lesson takes place in the afternoon); please specify the number of weeks per year you require (e.g. 38 or 34). Please see order form for prices. P 1&2 3 4 5&6 7&8 9-11 12&13 S Advisory Service The Music Service offers a fixed fee Advisory Service (see booking form). The Music Advisor will visit your school to: • Meet with Head Teacher, Head of Department/Music Coordinator as appropriate. • Review schemes of work and assessment framework. • Observe lesson and give verbal feedback. • Advise on strategic management of music budget • Suggest effective involvement of TAs and other resources • Suggest excellent national music initiatives for the classroom • Running a quality extra-curricular programme. • Provide a written report (Approx 10 hrs work) The Music Service can also offer advice in the following single areas. Making music in bands, groups, choirs and ensembles is hugely beneficial for pupils - musically, socially and academically. Most importantly, it is great fun! Our expert teachers can offer a wide range of exciting opportunities for your pupils: • String Ensemble 3 4 5&6 7&8 9-11 12&13 S • Brass Ensemble • Wind Band • Guitar Group • Percussion Ensemble • School Orchestra/Band • Flute Ensemble • Choir • Music Technology • Rock School • Songwriting Club • Mixed Flexible Ensemble (a school band for any combination of instruments and abilities) Term 34 sessions per year (more by negotiation). Inspirational large-scale schools’ concerts are regularly organised in partnership with others. We also provide weekly and annual song writing opportunities. Come and find your voice - singing is great fun! Please see page 26 for details of choir opportunities with our Saturday morning ensembles. 3 4 5&6 7&8 9&11 88 Oxfordshire County Music Service | School Music Opportunities Brochure County Choirs Juniors Signpost your pupils South Oxfordshire Young Singers, Abingdon to this activity Wednesdays, Thomas Reade School in Abingdon, 6pm - 7pm. Oxfordshire Young Singers – City Thursdays, St Andrews Primary School in Headington, 4.30pm – 5.30pm. The choirs enjoy singing in all musical styles, in unison and in harmony. Singers in SOYS and OYS often have fun singing together in high quality venues such as The Sheldonian Theatre and in performances with other vocal groups such as the Oxford Bach Choir. Seniors Oxfordshire County Youth Choir Signpost your pupils Thursdays, Centre for Music in Headington, 6:30pm – 8:00pm. to this activity The Choir sings to a high standard across a variety of styles in four part harmony, performing in national competitions and in venues across Oxfordshire and further afield. New members are welcomed, and no audition is required. Rock Singing Opportunities for Pupils Signpost your pupils to this activity JamPod Academy Rock Schools Junior Rock School, Tuesdays 5:00pm – 6:30pm Senior Rock School, Mondays 6:30pm – 8:00pm Senior Rock School, Tuesdays 7:30pm – 9:00pm Weekly opportunities for budding singer-songwriters to form bands with other rock and pop musicians, in our new JamPod suite at the Centre for Music in Headington.
