Before we get started today please read the following: About the Show: Assassins lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a historical "revusical" that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Os- wald, writers, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman, bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. We are looking to cast 9 main roles and 15 supporting/ensemble/choir roles. The main roles are as follows: John Wilkes Booth (Vocal Range: F2-G4) Charles Guiteau (Vocal Range: A2-Ab4) Leon Czologosz (Vocal Range: G#2-G4) Giuseppe Zangara (Vocal Range: B2-A4) Samuel Byck (Vocal Range: D3-G4) Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme (Vocal Range: A3-B5) John Hinckley (Vocal Range: A2-G4) Sara Jane Moore (Vocal Range: F3-Eb5) Lee Harvey Oswald (Vocal Range: A2-G4) Balladeer (Vocal Range: C3-G4) The Proprietor (Vocal Range: Gb2-F4) Ensemble/ Choir: Emma Goldman David Herold Billy Moore No vocal range required No vocal range required No vocal range required Choir members will have a chance to play the roles of the presidents, tourists, news reporters, bystanders, or photographers. There are also some solo parts for the choir. Just a few more things… Auditions will consist of your prepared song. If we stop you before you have finished it’s because we’ve heard all we need to hear. Please don’t take that personally. Our music director may have you match pitch so we can get an accurate vocal range. The crew will not clap after you finish singing. We’re taking notes about your performance. Once again, it’s not anything you should take personally. Call backs will consist of a song from the show. You will be given music at the end of the audition. If you are being consid- ered for more than one role you may receive more than one excerpts. We will limit this as much as possible. Call backs will also consist of cold reads from the script. You will not see these pages until call backs. The main will be contacted via phone by the director(s). A cast list will be released once parts have been accepted. Please limit the amount of people you tell to a minimum. A video announcement will be released by South Jackson as soon as pos- sible. We will meet to discuss the rehearsal schedule ASAP. Foreman and inspirational celebrity to the other assassins. Killed Lincoln at 27 years old. Range: F2-G4 Charles Guiteau- (1841-1882) Assassinated President James Garfield in the waiting room of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station, Washington, D.C., on July 2, 1881. Dashing but mad. Killed Garfield 39-40 years old. Range: A2-Ab4 Leon Czologosz- (1873-1901) Assassinated President William McKinley at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, N.Y. on September 6, 1901. A young poverty-worn radical. Killed McKinley at 28 years old. Range: G#2-G4 Giuseppe Zangara- (1900-1933) Attempted to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt as he greeted well-wishers in Bayfront Park, Miami, FL on February 15, 1933. An angry, heavily-accented immigrant. Attempted to assassinate Roosevelt at 33 years old. Range: B2-A4 Lee Harvey Oswald- (1939-1963) Assassinated President John F. Kennedy from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas, TX on November 22, 1963. A suicidal, dejected shipping clerk. Killed Kennedy at 24 years old. Vocal range: A2-G4 John Hinckley- (1955- ) Attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan as he left the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. on March 30, 1981. A love-obsessed and depressed college student. Attempted to assassinate Reagan at 26 years old. Vocal range: A2-G4 Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme- (1930- ) Attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, CA, on September 22, 1975. A frazzled housewife with little sense. Attempted to assassinate Ford at 27 years old. Vocal range: A3-B5 Sara Jane Moore- (1930- ) Attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, CA, on September 22, 1975. A fraz- zled housewife with little sense. Attempted to assassinate Reagan at 45 years old. Vocal range: F3-Eb5 Samuel Byck- (1930-1974) Attempted to assassinate President Richard Nixon by hi- jacking a commercial jetliner. Hysterically irate schlep in a Santa Claus suit. Attempted to assassinate Nixon at 44 years old. Vocal range: D3-G4 David Herold- (1842-1865) An accomplice of John Wilkes Booth in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Hanged as a coconspirator at the age of 23. Herold doesn’t sing. No vocal range is required for this character. Emma Goldman (1869-1940) An anarchist political activist. She interacted with as- sassin Leon Czolgosz. Goldman doesn’t sing. No vocal range is required for this character.
