He enjoyed a considerable amount of success as an artist and for nearly a decade had numerous exhibits of his work. In 1880 his desire to serve God led him to join the Society of Jesus but after six months he left the order. In 1884 Adam became a Franciscan tertiary. He abandoned his art and dedicated himself entirely to caring for the poor and homeless. In 1887 he was inspired to take the name Albert and took his vows in Cracow, Poland. It was at this time that he founded an order of brothers who became known as the Albertines. Several years later he also founded an order for women, who also dedicated their time to serving the poor and homeless. Albert died on December 25, 1916 and his funeral was attended by average people as well as the mayor of Cracow and the city's bishop. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on June 23, 1983 in Cracow.
