This section marks the beginning of the story of Hiran. yaka´sipu, the son of Praj¯a- pati Ka´syapa and Diti. Hiran. yaka´sipu is consecrated king of the Daityas and desires to rule the three worlds. He practices severe tapas at Sr¯ıparvata.´ Brahm¯aappears and he receives immortality from him under a series of conditions. Hiran. yaka´sipuconquers the three worlds.
