Indra requests that Sam´ . kara makes Vis.n. u give up the Man-Lion form that he assumed to kill Hiran. yaka´sipu.V¯ayuasks to be provided with a body, and Soma asks to be freed from the consumption with which Daks.a had cursed him. This section marks the beginning of the story of Hiran. yaka´sipu, the son of Praj¯a- pati Ka´syapa and Diti. Hiran. yaka´sipu is consecrated king of the Daityas and desires to rule the three worlds. He practices severe tapas at Sr¯ıparvata.´ Brahm¯aappears and he receives immortality from him under a series of conditions. Hiran. yaka´sipuconquers the three worlds. M¯ah¯atmya of Sr¯ıparvata.´ Dev¯ısees P¯a´supatayogins reach perfection there. She practises great tapas to acquire the same result.
