Last year more than 800 dogs and cats were transferred from overcrowded shelters to SoHumane. Your gifts provide nutritious food, clean shelter and exceptional veterinary care for these pets who are homeless. As a vet care volunteer or intern, initial training revolves around animal restraint and handling. From there, an intern learns the medical intake procedure completed on each dog and cat at SoHumane. This involves becoming familiar with parasite and vaccination protocols and learning physical exam and behavior assessment skills. The highlight for most interns is spending time assisting with surgery preparation and watching surgical procedures.
